What are the consequences of taking ADHD meds (ie Adderall XR) for a patient who has been misdiagnosed? Are there any long term/short term effects that a patient without ADHD would show due to meds compared to a patient who really has ADHD?

Yes, so dont take your friends addies! give em back its a bad idea they dont do anything but get you addicted (google adderall addiction) people who dont take 'medicinal' ammounts of prescribed meds can become addicted or severly injured (liver, heart, and alot of other problems could arise) thats why they are only prescribed by doctors (so they can monitor your health) dont try it!

I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I am prescribed Adderall, and have been on it the past few months. Doc says I may have been misdiagnosed, and I just wanted to know the effects meds have on a non-ADHD mind. I am not obtaining illegal pills from friends, nor am I taking more then my prescribed dose.

If there were any negative effects you more than likely would have noticed them by now. It wouldn't hurt to have a complete physical though.

Why does the doctor think you were misdiagnosed? Was this the same doctor who diagnosed you in the first place?

The short term consequences of trating a non-adderr for adhd are nil, but the long term consequences are bad due to the actual condition not being treated.
It happens al lthe time, in fact. Peole with other disorders are sometimes diagnosaed with adhd, and the end result is that their condition usually does not improve or even worsens...
