OK, my big problem with learning to live life with the support provided by the medications is that they can be taken away at any time; on a fundamental level, I don't feel free or independent if a doctor can decide to take me off them at any time.

Do you know what I mean? Any thoughts on this? Are you really free if you're at the mercy of the prescription pad?

Mostly this worries me because once my psychiatrist (who could not even remember who I was from visit to visit) cancelled my visit abruptly (like, while I was in the waiting room) and would not refill my prescription without speaking to me first and would be out of town for two weeks. So I had to face down a huge pile of responsibilities I had taken on, without the medication. But mostly I just felt like the rug had been pulled out from under my mind. It was a violation like having your home broken into.

Wow-my docs have never done that! Had it been a long time since the last visit? That could be why-but you were there.

I would be tactfully blunt with him next visit, if there is one, you shouldn't have to go without needed meds. Just because this is a "mental" disorder does not mean you should go without. They don't make diabetics wait. That must have been tough. Usually another doc will see you or write a scrip. Does he practice alone? To me this is unacceptable. Have you changed docs? Mine remember me. Question-is that good or bad :D ?

I agree with Radeker: Not being able to get your prescribed meds refilled is UNACCEPTABLE!! By any chance is there more to the story??

I know that Psychiatrists, in particular, can be real hard ^sses! If you had asked to reschedule but weren't able to come in during times when he was available - and THEN you were allowed to show up and see him if he was ABLE to squeeze you in - well, I can see a shrink not giving a hoot about you then. They really insist that you bend to meet THEIR schedule. (So sorry this happened to you.) Also, I've found them to trivialize my problems, such as, "You're not going to DIE without your medication!"

I can see what you mean about the diabetic not getting their meds being compared to a person with adhd cause both need their meds but a person with add/adhd wont die if they do not get their meds but a person who is diabetic could, or go in to a coma.... :eyebrow:

But I feel that is awful that they did that to you, they should never just STOP giving you your meds with out speaking with you first, that is very umprofessional and I feel they should have their lisences suspened for a short time....

I hope you have changed drs...
