My doctor thinks that I may have adhd. He has put me on klonopin .5mg 3x a day to I guess make sure it is not something else. He is worried that my hyperactivity and anxiety causes me to lose things and be disorganizedd. I am still hyper on it and it is hard to fall aslepp. Has anyone had add and been put on any trtanquilizer for it? How has it worked for you?

hmmm I think you might want to find another doctor?

ADDer's are ususally prescribed stimulants no tranq's.
Although sometimes we are given both, but mostly to wind down after we rebound off our reg meds.
Need to make sure you Doc is up to date on treatments of ADD and all of the co-existing conditions that usually come along with?

Thank you for replying. He wants to make sure that it is adhd, not some other condition. My family has hypomania, bipolar, add, adhd, gad, and panic disorder. He is trying to pin down and eliminate other possibilities before diagnosing adhd. But I don't have time to experiment. I am pretty sure it is adhd , both parents and a sister have it along with prexisting mental conditions. Mhat a crazy family, but we love each other...:)

Well Martha I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are an Adult that just got dx ...you have waited this long, and unfortuantely sometimes the only way you can find out what you have, is to play with the meds. And when you do find out what you have you still have to fool around with different meds, doses etc.

The bad thing is when it's a blood level med, since you know it takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks to start working. The good news if is for ADDers stimulants work well as soon as you take them.

I know patience is not our strong point, however if you really want to find the med that works best for you and can give you the desired effect, you might have to be patient and if you doc knows what's he's doing, wait and see.
Sorry you probably won't like my answer, but you will find with most of us here, been there and done that, and felt the same!

Benzos are sedatives.

1.5mg of klonopin is so small i dont even see the point of putting someone on a benzo at this low of a dose, they may as well just give you nothing. Your doctor may think you have some sort of anxiety disorder as generally thats what benzos are used for.

I used to take 3mg - 5mg of Klonopin daily and currently i take 2mg of xanax daily.

1mg of xanax equals about 2mg of Klonopin.
