View Full Version : Thinking Styles Inventory-Not just another Test, A Valuable Tool
VisualImagery 07-30-06, 01:24 PM I copied the information about this Inventory from the website. It is a very informative assessment that will expand your knowledge and understanding of how your ADD/ADHD brain works. I have taken it and will post results in another reply.
The results of this inventory are of value to anyone going to college, choosing or redirecting a career. It is another part of the picture of who you are and how your brain functions. And yes it has a fun element too. But..... that is to come.
I keep my results in a binder with the results of other inventories and assessments I have taken. They have been of great help in counseling. My psychologist has copied them to study between visits.
Post your results here. How do we think? It will be interesting to see if there are any similarities among us.

Take the Sternberg-Wagner Thinking Styles Inventory (http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/tscale/)
Variations of Thinking Styles (http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/tscale/tsint.php)
Over the past few decades learning styles, thinking styles , and cognitive styles have become an important part of our understanding of how people learn. Styles are preferred methods of thinking or methods of processing information. They are independent of abilities. Styles are methods of using abilities.
The Sternberg-Wagner Thinking Styles Inventory is one of several learning style type inventories (Also see the Multiple Intelligence Inventory (http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/projects.php?id=42)). The thinking styles inventory is based on a Theory of Mental Self-Government, developed by Robert Sternberg and his associates. The theory models thinking around a governmental structure. Simply stated, governments require legislators, who create legislation, executors who implement the legislation, and judiciaries, who evaluate or judge whether the legislation is effective or not. These functions within government roughly parallel three functional types of thinkers: creators, implementers, and evaluators.

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD class=title vAlign=top>Purpose/Objective:</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=2>Your goal in completing the Sternberg-Wagner Thinking Styles Inventory should be to understand how you think within the model associated with the Theory of Mental Self-Government, and to understand that others are likely to think differently than you do. Understand how knowledge of others thinking styles can help you in all walks of life. Be sure to read Variations of Thinking Styles (http://www.ldrc.ca/projects/tscale/tsint.php) for a brief summary of principles and behavioural characteristics Sternberg associated with thinking styles. Do I have to give my e-mail address to see my results?
Is there any benefit in giving them an e-mail address?
VisualImagery 07-30-06, 02:02 PM Great question seek. You do get an immediate page with the results. They email your results so you have a hard copy. Handy in case you lose your reference number.
I have never had any spam, or unwanted email from this site. Everything is professional and above board. It is a support community. Canada, Australia, UK, and New Zealand are miles ahead of the US in the research and application of learning styles etc in the education system.
When I put a link on this site, I try to be very sure that it is reputable, reliable, and useful. Input from other members is always welcome and wanted!!! Thanks so much.

*~ §EEK ~* 07-30-06, 03:20 PM Opps, I ran out of time (30 minutes) to edit mine to make it all smaller! :(
Oh well, I got 1/2 way closer to making it look a little more like yours does RADD! :)
VisualImagery 07-30-06, 03:29 PM Ok RADD, I fixed mine so it looks similar (In Appearance) to how you displayed your results! :)
So nice you are seek! I am just a little wee bit anal rententive today. However you post them is OK.
I did start a spread sheet with each set of results-no names-I am curious to see if there are any trends or if we are all over the map with this. I will make the spreadsheet available when I get the first full page. I will have to mail those as email attachments since I can't work the attachments on the forum yet.
If you knew me, this is weird. I guess that positronic brain implant Spot sent me is helping. Only the 3rd spreadsheet of my life. I am hoping to make some bar charts and stuff too. Love visuals.
*~ §EEK ~* 07-30-06, 03:35 PM About the only thing useful that I can gather from my results (Which I already knew) is:
I am an extroverted, people-oriented, outgoing, socially more sensitive, and interpersonally more aware person that has trouble deciding which goals to give priority to and may have trouble allocating resources.
:D LOL
Well at least I'll always have friends that can help me allocate my resources better! LOL :D
I practically never feel 100% one way or the other about anything RADD! That's why my scores are almost universally right down the middle, and why I guess I can't decide "which goals to give priority too and what resources to allocate"! LOL :D
Shoot, I think about all the Pros and Cons so much that I can't make up my mind about anything! Which is why my GF won't let me go grocery shopping! I'll come home with one of everything, rather than spend 4 hours in the grocery store trying to make up my mind! LOL :D
VisualImagery 07-30-06, 03:38 PM Gimme some time seek-there is more to it than meets the eye-I need to be in a Beta 3 or 4 brain wave state to splain your results Lucy, er Seek.

Good question. I would be so nice if there was a definitive test that would tell the taker the best career for them. There are so many variables or parts of the employment/career picture that this is no easy process for anyone. If you have an invisible disability, like ADD/ADHD, that adds one more variable to the puzzle.
In this post I am only going to address one aspect of selecting a career. A much more thorough answer will be posted. I may start a thread on this in careers. Are you interested?
Tests and assessments only look at one part of the picture at one point in time. What if you find a job you love and get a boss from the nether regions? That is a variable no test can measure. Will you be happy in that job? Much of the time, but many people leave beloved careers for just this reason.
The bad news? There is no test that will tell you what career you should do. The good news? There is no test that will tell you what career you should do.
The Thinking-Style Inventory assesses your thinking styles. For example, if your scores on the Liberal-Conservative section are high in liberal and low in conservative, you will not enjoy or find satisfaction in a job that requires you to stick to the rules, procedures, and basically go with the flow.
There is too much info to put into a reply. Start with this and explore the internet for other resources on careers. Search the forum for other relevant threads.
Individuals with a liberal style like to go beyond existing rules and procedures and seek to maximize change. They also seek or are at least comfortable with ambiguous situations, and prefer some degree of unfamiliarity in life and work.
Individuals with a conservative style like to adhere to existing rules and procedures, minimize change, avoid ambiguous situations where possible, and prefer familiarity in life and work.
