View Full Version : Suddenly Sleepy after months of use. Why?

I've been taking Concerta for several months and for the past two to three weeks I've been between relaxed and sleepy. This is how I felt when I switched from Adderall XR to Concerta, but then it did not last more than a few days.

I take even more coffee now, but it makes me sleepy; It didn't before! What's going on? No new meds in the picture...I'm clueless.

I decided to take Concerta because I found it smoother than Adderall XR and it made me relax and improved my concentration. Adderal was superior for concentration and motivation, but made me a bit more anxious.

I need to call my doctor tomorrow, but would appreciate some feedback before I talk to him.

Is it time to go back to amphetamines? Should I try dextroamphetamine instead of just going back to Adderall?

This must be a tough one...

I can understand the "paradoxical" effect, but why at this point?
Is this just another form of the "Concerta stopped working" complaint many people have?

Ergh, Snap, I keep coming back to this and I am stumped :(...I hate being stumped when I so wanna help!

My only similar experience was a "plateau" on Concerta. The Kid and I hit the Plateau at the same time, titrated our Concerta dose up again, and have had success at the new dose ever since.

Adderal makes the two of us nutsoids, so I do not have a frame of reference to give you any better advice in that regard.

Crazy (gonna go get me a cheerleader emoticon right now)

Thanks Crazy,

If I take a smaller dosage I'm spacey, but if I take what I'm supposed to take, I get kind of sleeepy (and still spacey).
Let's see what happens.

Hmmm how long has it been making you sleep? Just struggling for a clear picture here.

:D :D :D

Crazy,

I called my doc...and in the 27 sec call, he wanted me to reduce the dosage...told himI had already done it...wanted to give IR ritalin...told him I'd rather try dextroamphetanine spansules...told me he thinks they don'r make them anymore...so he gave 10mg dextro tid.

I felt so rushed by him that I accepted; besides, it is better to start with IR.
I'll offer an update tomorrow.

I think I need a new doctor and I dread the thought of starting over.

Thanks for your concern.

Hi Snappy,

I'm kinda in the same boat. The 27mg that I've been on the last 2 months seems too low now and I get sleepy and drinking more coffee. That's kinda a tipoff right there that our bodies are back to trying to self-medicate with caffeine. When the concerta was working real good I had no desire for caffeine. I'm gonna call my doc to bump me up an extra 18mg for now.

Hey Crazy maybe Sargon was bumping me - dont know....

Anyway an update....

Doing great and have stabilized on Concerta 36mg and occasional doses of methylphenidate 20mg as needed to fall asleep or converse with my wife ;)

Only issue that I have now is that my fingers feel cold (really cold) all the time which is definately a side effect cause it goes away when I take a stim holiday.

Happy holidays to all...

How funny.. I was about to post the same topic because Im in the same situation. Concerta @ 54 used to MAKE me wake upo in the morning.. for the past few weeks, Ive overslept. Also, I feel sadder and more depressed and nothing else has changed. I guess its time to go up to 72?
