I'm curious whether ADDers are promoted often. Or do they stay with the same job at the same level for a long time.

Never, My "lack of maturity" has prevented my promotion time and time again. Sigh..

I get into too many arguments with the management and my co-workers and p*ss everyone off too much. Even though I do a good job I doubt that I'd ever be considered for anything higher.

Thanks for your frankness and honesty and openness.

I have not really been in many positions that lend themselves well to promotions, because many of my jobs were sales oriented - ie; financial planner for several years. Before that it was either athletic or artistic - horses or photography.

However, I never really felt like I fit the role of "boss", so I never really tried hard to get it. I think now, if I were in corp America again, I would go for the higher positions and I think I'd have a much better chance today. I also tend to look very young, I am short and "used to be" slight in body shape, and I have a very high voice for a man, so those factors may also have influenced me to not seek "boss" positions. Today, I would not even consider those factors, and would go for the gusto, but that was then, and this is now.

I am the poster child for the "Peter Principal"!
In entry-level or sub-management positions I usually excel and am thought highly of, so I get promoted and given more responsibility.
Eventually the responsibility becomes too much for me to keep up with and I end up either quitting in frustration or I get fired. On average I remain at the same company for about 5 years.

I rarely get promoted because I do not stay at a job long enough (1.5 years is my average since 1989). But I do get the equivalent of the promotion position usually, but in a new company. Often I cannot make myself wait for the promotion in the old company so I go looking for it somewhere else.

The breakthrough for me was when I realised that I had no attention for details & needed to do big picture jobs with people to look after the details. I've been going really well since then.

It is almost impossible for me to be promoted again without furthering my education. I work long term care in a nursing facility; I have been promoted twice but without a nurse's license it will not happen again. But, this is a field I excell in as no day is ever the same and the pace is fast. My current role is Med aide/night charge...OK I do have to admit that I hate the paperwork that goes along with my job. But, have found ways to keep myself focused i.e. I carry a clipboard and write out my reports while walking around the office (if I keep moving my mind stays on task). I did get a great review this year stating that I have the ability to adapt to new situations at a moment's notice and am able to communicate with a wide age range of ppl. But, like I said I am in a field were most ADD'ers excell.

God The thought of staying at a job long enough to get a promotion scares the bejevies out of me.

To imagine the bordom of doing the same thing for a long period of time (like over 6 weeks)

I have a tough time staying anywhere over 3 months anymore

too many new things to explore out there

In the span of 7 years I was promoted then demoted than promoted back to the same position...demoted again! The last time i said "bite me" (not exactly what was said) and quit because I'm not a yo-yo.

That just happened to me--the previous supervisor got fired for something nobody will talk about, the next in seniority turned the promotion down, so I got it. I was told, this is what you're being moved up to, and you are on probation. I got no choice, no warning, no training, not even a word of advice. Needless to say, I didn't last out the probationary period before they brought in somebody who was supposed to train me, but I'm back on my old shift, and no training. Those lying b*****ds. Way to set me up. Next they will decide, for my own good, I need to move to a different job location. I will, but it won't be one of theirs.
