I have been on adderall for a couple of years now but out of the blue I have developed a severely adverse reaction. When I take it, within the course of 2 days....my mouth swells up, becomes severely inflamed and hurts like HELL! My throat gets extremely raw too. I can barely eat or drink anything. I know its adderall causing this cos I had stopped ii and several days ago I started taking it again and BAM the sore mouth came back with a vengence. I talked with the pharmacist this morning when I went to get the lortab for my mouth pain. He said he was almost certian I had developed an intolerance to it and my doctor should put me on something else. He had heard of a similar situation involving another patient.

I stopped the adderall and the throat pain has cleared up but my mouth still hurts and everything I attempt to eat burns like hell. The pharmacist said it would more than likely clear up within a week. Any ideas which medicine I should try next?

It is really hard to give suggestions on what medications to take as all of us react differently too medications.I took adderall as well for about a year and had no reactions at all and then I had gastric bypass surgery and was off of medications for 8 months, and then i just recently was put back on the adderall and had badddddddddddd reasctions.I had a headache that last for 5 days striaght and nothing i did or took would take it away, not even shots from the hospital of a very strong medication would not work.My heart felt as if it was going to come right through my chest.

Sorry this is your thread, just wanted you too know that medications can be ok for a while then all of a sudden boom reactions and not so good of ones.

I wish you the best of luck,i know that finding the right medication can be not so fun.

Lipz17,
I suspect that as a result of your surgery and the subsequent shrinking of your stomach, you are absorbing the medication way too quickly. This makes the effects of adderall (increased heart rate and blood pressure) become even more pronounced and intolerable. Have you tried taking a much smaller dosage, perhaps 5mg? Or you may consider asking your Physician about the use of a hypertension medication as well.
