 I went in to my physician on the first, to discuss medication for ADD, since I had previously been on Strattera with another physician, and had bad side effects with it. He started me on taking Concerta (18 mg), and around 12 hours after I take it, I get a feeling like I'm completely lost. Decisions come to me very slowly. I have trouble coming up with words. I can't make decisions. It usually lasts around an hour, then I start to come out of it, and go back to normal. Other than that, I don't notice any real changes from when I am on Concerta, and it wearing off. I have noticed that I'm able to do things at work that I dreaded before, and would simply not do, such as filing. I have a psychiatrist appointment on Thursday afternoon, to give a 2nd opinion (requested by my physician). I've been putting together as much information as I can, since I know that the moment I step in the door, I'll turn into a complete blank.

Anyways, on the original subject, I was just curious if anyone had any feedback, or similar reactions. My friends are giving me strange looks when I go into a daze.

Welcome Squirbit! I believe you are experiencing what we call a "rebound". This is a period of time after the meds wear off that your old symptoms will actually increase before leveling off to "normal unmedicated" level.

I experienced rebound with Concerta until I got my meds tweaked properly.

Is there a better way to go about it then? I'm considering talking to my doctor when we re-evaluate my meds to doing a split dose, so I don't get this in the middle of the evening, when it is very inconvenient to my home life. It's awful to come home from work, and immediately turn into a zombie, and just want to go to bed and not be so confused. Any suggestions on what to talk to the doctor about, or to discuss trying in the future?

Just for history's sake, I'm 26, took strattera when I was 24, working up to 60 mg a day, then got really dark feelings, and felt like I was always watching myself from inside my head, so started weening myself off of them, and shortly after lost my insurance.

Since regaining insurance, I went to the doctor, who is trying a stimulant instead, because of the problems I had w/ Strattera. I'm at 18mg right now, but not feeling a huge amount of change. Let me know if there's anything else anyone'd like to know.. lol

Yes many of us stagger doses throughout the day so we can avoid rebound. I do so myself.

I was thinking it could be rebound also. The only way I can tell that my meds wear off now, is that I go right into the "zoning out" stuff that I have always done.
I wanted to say though, that I had some rebound when my dose was to low and the zoning out was really bad, and I also had a little depression when they wore off too. My meds were wearing off fairly quickly, I had rebound, and just didn't feel like I was where I wanted to be as far as functioning either. My doctor kept increasing my dose. He said as long as I was seeing improvement, and not more bad, then he would continue to increase until we were at a good point. When I finally hit the right dose I knew it. I felt great, my meds now last about 9 hours, instead of the 4 hours I was getting off of the 18mg, and the rebound is gone.

So just keep in touch with your doctor, and let him know what is going on. A little tweaking may improve this significantly.
