OK, i just got my prescription for 120 dexedrine pills the copay is gonna be about 50 bucks! (GSK brand)
anyway the mallinckrodt version isnt available where my insurance is covered how can i get this version so i dotn hafta pay 50+ bucks?
can i talk to my insurance company and say look i reallly really want this version can we work something out or if my doc specifies i must have this version than will insurance cover it? any tips or suggestions?
I have been paying full price for these meds since 1992 out of pocket so I would not know exactly what to tell you concerning how to deal with your insurance. However, a $50 co-pay for Dexedrine is about 1/4 of what I pay without insurance for 400 Dexedrine. I am sure you could save much by shopping around from pharmacy to pharmacy.
I have not had insurance in years (since I was under 18 living with my folks), & as a result I have learned a dirty little secret concerning how these pharmacies operate. In every town across the country these local pharmacies charge what ever their local market will pay. I personally think it is criminal that they are allowed to do this. Especially when you consider how much trouble some of the local gas stations around the country get in when they are charged with price fixing for raising the price of a gallon of gas more than can be justified.
Unfortunately pharmacies like Walgreens, Right Aid, CVS, and any of the big chain pharmacies are the worst at doing this price gouging. Try calling around the town you live in and see how much cheaper Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Kroger pharmacies are compared to the big chain pharmacies for the exact same prescription drug. Granted, some pharmacies like Wal-Mart do not carry brand name drugs, but they can order them, and therefore give you a price quote so that you can compare their price to the big chain pharmacies.
Here is an example of how bad the problem is where I live. K-Mart pharmacy charges me $210 for 400 Dexedrine. CVS quoted me a price of $490 for the same prescription. I once checked this out with a non-ADD drug to see if it happend across the board with all drugs, and I was shocked to find out it does. I had a prescription a couple of years ago for amoxicillin (generic antibiotic for Amoxil). Kroger pharmacy filled the prescription for $18, CVS wanted to charge me $49 for the exact same generic, made by the exact same company.
The worst part is that these pharmacies like CVS, Right-Aid, Walgreens are taking advantage of the elderly on fixed incomes, and those without insurance. They are also taking advantage of the insurance companies who pay the other part of the co-pay, and then of course pass that cost on to the people who have insurance.
I always hear people complain about how pharmacuetical companies are to blame for why health care is so expensive, and granted they are making a considerable profit. However, I am more angry with the local pharmacies across the nation like CVS, Right-Aid, Walgreens who continue to gouge people who are simply unaware that there is really that much a difference in price from one pharmacy to the next.
Sorry to ramble on, and get off topic, but I feel so strongly about this, and I find so few people that are aware that this is going in every town in America.
So to make a long story short, shop around. It pays.

Wow - Lars - Thanks for the tip. Do you take 400 dexedrine in 1 month?
Wow - Lars - Thanks for the tip. Do you take 400 dexedrine in 1 month?Yes, I take almost 400 a month. I take 12 of the 5mg tablets of Dexedrine everyday. That breaks down to 3 doses at 20 mg per dose, which equals 372 pills every 31 days. So 400 tablets actually allows me a couple of extra days worth of the drug every month which works out good. I have been on Desoxyn for the past month, but am switching back to Dexedrine, and will actually be picking up my prescription of Dexedrine within the hour.

Seems like Lars (and others) confirm Dexedrine is a great med for ADD/HD, and for some, recreational use as :
-Johnny Cash
-Elvis
-Mick Jagger
and other rich@famous folks who could get whatever they wanted loved Dextroamphetamine-more euphoric i guess, available once in liquid form.
Thanks
