Hi all -

I recently discovered I am ADD, and I am new to all of this. Anyway, I found a psychiatrist and he started me with Strattera, the typical 18mg for 4 days and then 25mg after that. I am supposed to go back after a month to see him again. After the first five days I felt horrible (tired, lethargic, nauseous) and called the doctor - they said keep taking it, Strattera's effects don't really kick in until the second or third week after you start it. Well, I tried - but I couldn't do it, so I quit.

My question: is this what other people have found? I've seen one post that referenced after the first couple weeks there was a change, but has anyone else experienced this? If so, how do you make yourself stick with it to get to the good effects? I am a college professor and cannot afford to be "off" for three weeks like that.

Thanks for your help!

here's my experience--the first pill I took--40mg--I took at night. i thought it would make me sleepy. Actually, it energized me (an effect my Dr was not sure would occur). It was as if my brain had been a dead battery and the Strattera a pair of jumper cables. My thinking was much more clear, i felt less depressed and more energetic.

When I went up to higher doses, things changed. I have taken as much as 80mg/day. But even at 60mg/day the Strattera makes me drowsy--so I take it at nite.

i believe it still has some positive effect, but not the effect that the initial 40mg/day doses had.

Has anyone else noticed this--that Strattera is more energizing at lower doses?

Best regards

Thanks for the info - my doctor has since switched me to Concerta, so we'll see how that goes now...
