Hi, my younger brother has ADD and he continued to scream random words ranging from "Pickalo" to "Banana" and just hum odd tunes. I always used to yell at him to stop, but my mom told me he couldn't control it. This is an extremely bothersome issue and I would probably feel better if I knew if he could control it or not. Does anyone else know about this or know anyone with this issue?

Benzin, this doesn't sound like ADHD to me.

Although being impulsive ADHD what comes into brain pops straight out mouth I normally don’t repeated the same words over and over. This can be a sign of other things besides ADD, Tortes and Autism to name a few off the top of my head. I can’t see any one doing this word repeative thing if they could stop it, so I agree this isn’t some thing he wants to do.

Sounds like Tourette's syndrome to me.

Sometimes Tourettes is associated with other dissorders like ADHD. This condition is characterized by sudden, repetitive, nonrhythmic involuntary movements (motor tics), and/or vocallizations or utterances (phonic tics). Note, that one or all of these symptoms may be present.

no its not tourettes because its not the same words over and over, its just differents words noises etc. they just continue after repetative requests to stop.

Actually I did that when I got really hyper, completely goofy hyper. I would run down the halls at school and stick my head into random doorways and yell "Vroom, vroom". Did I mention I was in high school when I did this? I still have things like it but as I have dealt with the more depressed side of my ADD the hyper side has become more controllable. I do whistle all the time (I'm bad at it too) just tunes that I make up.

If your brother is anything like me, he can control it but it makes him feel really bad to do so. For me, that "sillyness" was one of the best feelings, one that I wouldn't control for anything cause all too soon I'd got back to feeling overwhelmed and depressed.

Ya Proscrire, thats sounds a lot like what he does. another example was we were sitting in my living room playing video games and he, out of nowhere says "ch ch ch chia" it was hilarious yet very annoying. i dont think it tourettes because its not just like while were sitting around, its usually when hes drawing or playing video games etc.

Son #2 would pick some phrase and repeat it for days - not during a conversation, but when he was doing something else. The other 4 of us would plead for him to stop. Finally, after some years, he said that he heard it in his head and had to repeat it because he was enamored with what it sounded like.
He's a Chicago rapper, supposedly there is a particular flavor of rappers, and he is very talented.

but imagine 'where's the beef?' in every intonation possible, repeatedly. Or the 'oo haaa' from the movie where that guy was blind, not De Nero, shoot. At any rate, he still does this on occasion.
'booyaaaahh' was pretty recent. 'oh yeahhhhh' days on end... I think it makes him happy, or it tickles him to do this too. He's 22.

Its a family trait here and used for external focusing...Dad made random gutterals like "mrrrrp-mrrrp-mrrrp" and "chhh-chhhhhh-chhh", I rely more on silly ditties these days, usually involving the demented process of killing an earworm ("What's gonna work? Shana work! "What's gonna work? Shana work! She's not too big and she's not too tough, but when she puts her mind to it she's got the right stuff!!") :o, and the Kid tends toward some pretty strident outbursts: "Squall! SQUALL! SQUALL!!!!!" or something like "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" repeated 4 times-then a pause-then 4 times again, over and over . She can be pretty annoying and I suppose all 3 of us can be...but for the most part its mildly irritating at its worst, and sometimes its extremely amusing.

my son is a notorious hummer, whistler, and singer. Usually just some random tune he's made up or something he recently heard. Sometimes annoying, sometimes not so much. He doesn't always realize he's doing it.
