I put Canada as a separate one coz there seems to be some strange kind of rivalry between to two (like Oz and NZ). I didn't want to offend anyone.

I am first generation american. I am of French Canadian descent and proud of it. I identify more with Canada than the US. So, I did not vote.

Nobody's offended, at least I certainly am not... just amused. It's just that the term "North America" properly refers to the USA (including Alaska but not Hawaii), Mexico, AND Canada. An understandable error though, to someone from elsewhere on the globe.

Okay! So I'm the only one here in the Southern Hemisphere? Today was a great day. It was 31 degrees celcius and we took the kids down to the beach. I love the beach but it is so far away from where I live so we hardly ever get to go.

Picture this -

Light blue sky with not a cloud in it. White sandy beach decorated with shells and seaweed with hardly anyone else around. Calm ocean with so many beautiful shades of blue, and one crazy ADD family destroying the peace.

Come and live in Western Australia if you want to live in a quiet, laid back place. There are only 1.4 million people in the city and surrounding suburbs. Where I live there is bush across the road and there is a farm with horses down the street (and that's in suburbia!).

Say, if I were from Saskatchewan (I'm not, just hypothetical), would I pick North America or Canada -- or both?

Here's a pic of my backyard I shot last winter during a rare snow storm.

http://www.epic-isti.com/imhip/images/11.jpg

I live on a dead end dirt road in a home my wife and I built. I mean, we really really built it. We dug the footing (perimeter where the outside walls sit) by hand shovel. My wife was 8 months pregnant and we were hanging sheet rock for the living room ceiling. My ADD was blasting and every nail was agony. It seemed like an impossible task. But my wife would say “Just one more sheet rock and we’ll quit for the day.” Without her, we wouldn’t have the roof on yet.

Oh, and she let me help her build the shed (in the pic).

There are trees and farmland on three sides, there’s the dirt road and a few houses across the way. Although we’ve live here for more than fifteen years and raised our sons here, I couldn’t tell you my neighbor’s name. And I don’t want to know. It’s quiet, roomy and only 30 minutes from downtown Charlotte.

I was born in Portsmouth, NH, on April 3rd 1950.

My wife and I were married on April 3rd, 1971 at the City Hall ($20).

Our first apartment was on 5th St in Dover. My dad was born in Dover. He lived in the orphanage there.

We moved south (Athol, MA / Cranston, RI / North Kingstown, RI / South Carolina) back in the early 70s’.

I get up your way once in a while. Most recently, I spent a few days with my brother Patrick in Boston and my Sister Barbara in Franklin, MA. My sister Pam lives in Middletown, NH, brother Rick lives in MO, brother Bob lives in Richmond VA, and my other brother Pat (Herbert), lives in Virginia beach. Hmmmm. Did I forget anyone?

Anyway, my wife enjoys carpentry. She recently reworked the front porch columns:

http://www.epic-isti.com/imhip/images/porch.jpg

My wife, Sheila, has that flu/bug thingy right now. It's terrible.

We work from home. She's building a web-business:
http://www.click-a-gift.com

I already have a business that she's been helping me with for years:

Sheesh! Umm, I claim Idaho as I spent the most time there growing up. I was born in Hawaii and lived all over california though. I was a Navy brat. When I was of age, in Idaho, I signed up for my first hitch in the Navy and I have been here ever since, moving all over the eastern side of the country this time. So far, this has actually only consisted of Virginia, and South Carolina with little side trips all over the darn place. It is my hope to one day have hit all of the fifty states, but Alaska is gonna be a bastidge! I've got 38 so far. Pretty weird for a home body.

I live 28 mile north of Detroit Michigan.
Brr. it's cold this week. 9° F.

I have always works for Automotive companies, so I just can't picture moving away.

I have gone from renting a trailer, to buying a track home (so close together you couldn't get a full sized car between the houses to use the garage in back. lol), to 4.5 acres 30 miles N of where I am now, to moving down to high priced suburbia for the kids sake. (same size house on half-acre that cost more than the house on 4.5 acres up north)

I still miss my 4.5 acres in the woods, but there were no kids arround at all.

I'm from Brooklyn (Australia that is) - it's a semi-rural area a few hours out of Sydney (where the Olympics were held in 2000). We're on the river near a large bay & in a short boat trip you can cross over to Palm Beach which is on a narrow spit & go surfing in the Pacific Ocean. The weather is pretty hot at the moment - about 37 degrees celsius (that's about 100 degrees fahrenheit), the sky is blue & the air conditioning is on.

Speaking of Sunsets.

I went to St.Pete Beach Florida (by Tampa) a few weeks ago for a couple day vacation without the kids.
We thought it would be cool to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
Not a single cload in the sky.

We coudn't watch it because it was toooo bright. lol.
The sky didn't even change color becuase of the lack of clouds nor even a haze.
