I decided to up my 5mg to 10mg of Ritalin.. and at first I felt the normal tiredness(always the first hour, yawning, dazed etc) but after that I feel normal.

I was shocked to see how well the Ritalin kind of cleared the "fog" in my head.
My ADD symptoms are mostly inattentive, with some minor impulsive traits, as well as poor social skills... so I really only need to take a stimulant when I am required to pay attention(zone out too much, my mind wanders) and to learn/study while I am attending college.

So I put it to the test(10mg) and I begain studying some work from last year(the second part of the class will take place next semester, so it is good to probably try and learn it at some point, lol)
I could not believe how much of the imformation I was reading was "sinking" in.

Before, when I would read something, I always seemed to ... my eyes would read it... but my brain would be elsewhere.. so I would think I was reading/learning it.. when I really wasnt.

Plus, I could not recall anything I read, or learned while studying.

I actually felt normal, and capable of learning.. the feeling of being "slow" or "half there" when it comes to new information was gone.. and it just felt so freeing.

I wish I could explain it better. It was great to feel like my mind was open and receptive to things I tried learning. ( I could always learn, but only things I was really interested in)

It is just such a nice feeling.

I still get distracted by things around me(sounds, visuals etc) , my thoughts are still going in my head, and I do have to coax myself a bit to get started, but, overall, already there is such a huge difference.

I just had to share!(only my boyfriend knows that I suspect I have ADD, I cant talk to anyone else in my family/friends about it.. so when I realized how much it is REALLY helping.. I just had to share!)

Thanks for reading!

I just had to share! only my boyfriend knows that I suspect I have ADDYou "suspect" you have ADD?

How can you obtain a prescription for Ritalin if you suspect that you have ADD?

I had to get diagnosed before my Dr. would be willing to do that.

Did you get Ritalin prescribed for something other than ADD?

I am glad that it is working well for you.

no, I went to my doctor with test results in hand.. he said it was "highly likely" that I have ADD... he sent me to a psychiatrist.

My psychiatrist is open to the idea of adult ADD, but he doesnt think it is very common.. he has an ... "okay, we will try these, and see how you react.....it is very likely that you may have stumbled onto something here.... " kind of reaction to it.

I spent about 40mins with tests results I brought in, and describing my symptoms to him.

I say suspect.. . because I havent "officially" been diagnosed.. as in.. my doctor/psychiatrist havent specifically said to me... "yes, you have ADD" so...I still say I suspect.

If he doesn't think it is very common I would find another doctor if he gives you much of a hassle. IMO the true numbers of adults with it are so much higher than the statistics show. Does he believe the old theory that kids grow out of it?

yeah, that is what I think he thinks.

At least the good thing about this psychaitrist, is that he is open to the idea.

I figure, for now he will be okay, untill he actually ignores the facts, or tries to debate the idea with me.

I am going to see him again soon, and tell him how I am doing on the Ritalin he prescribed me.

But, last time I was there.. he said if Ritalin works well, he may switch me to Strattera?
Which I dont understand why? Or even how that is beneficial? Plus, strattera costs more!

So, I am kinda worried about talking to him about how much Ritalin really IS working for me.

Different system over here in the UK but my pyschiatrist didn't know much about it before I turned up but then he did a bit of reading and phoned a few people and accepted it fine. If he's prepared to take you seriously and listen to you then I'd stick with him. Don't lie to him though. Just ask him why, if you are reacting well to Ritalin, does he want to put you on Straterra.

Glad it's working for you.
