Hi all,

For some reason I couldn't post a new thread so forgive me for jumping into this one with a slightly different request.

I'm seeking someone who can provide assessment and diagnosis in the northern VA/greater DC area. My insurance company told me any clinical psychologist can assess adult ADD, but every clin psych I've called has said they don't do it. (Some even say they don't offer counseling for it.) Even the folks on the list my physician provided--supposedly vetted to find people who diagnose/treat adult ADD--tell me they neither diagnose nor treat.

I do have a psychiatrist who told me she can diagnose me after taking a one-hour clinical history, but from everything I've read that shouldn't be enough to base a diagnosis on, so I'm hesitant to go to her.

I'm feeling very frustrated, so would appreciate any leads.

many thanks,
amys

I know this is a super old thread but in case anyone found it on a search like I did, I am in the process of finding a psychiatrist in northern virgina (DC Area) and it seems like the ones I've spoke to are very expensive. The one that seemed the best charged $450 for the initial appointment! Although these doctors have all said that Federal BCBS pays a portion, that isn't true if are on the standard plan. Seeing that I would have to go back at least monthly, I don't know if we can afford it. I need to get back on medication (adderall), which worked great for me for 15 years, but I don't know a cost effective way to get the medication I need. There is also the risk that when I pay $450, the doctor will want to play around with meds, which is not workable for me. If anyone could provide details of doctors who may be little less expensive, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello. I am new to the ADD/ADHD Community.

~ Question: Need to find a PCP in the Alexandria/Arlington area whom will prescribe Adderal or similar therapy.

I am a mom to a 1 year old and new wife. Need helping focusing, maintaining energy and completing tasks. I find myself zoned out or daydreaming right in the middle of tasks or a thought. Or half way finishing a task before I have moved onto another and another.

~ Problem: I have just started a new job and relocated to Alexandria. I dont have enough PT built up to see 3 and 4 doctors and get referrals, etc just to get a prescription.
I have had a past history of Depression and I have seen a therapist and psychiatrist in the past whom have diagnosed me, so I have a backlog of info for the new doc if he wishes to verify. I am of normal height and average weight (5'7" - 165lbs) and in good health -so i dont need bloodwork or a physical.

Does anyone know of the perfect PCP for me to see for a new prescription based upon the above factors.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
