I was wondering if it possible to become tolerant to a low dose of 5mg,- 10mg of Ritalin within a week?

And, if that happens ... wouldnt that mean that I would have to increase dosage every week.... and if that happend, then by the time school begins, I would be on a dose way too high.

Or, does this mean another medication is in order?

i think about it differently, in that the side effects go away and the med works better. i think that should happen within a week (for me anyway). if i stop taking it i have to go thru that all over again. the dosage will not need to be increased every week once you are at an effective dose for your brain. ;)

Still new to ADHD meds but my experience with other brain meds, particularly antidepressants, is that after a short drug holiday, efficacy returns at low doses again ... so, ditto.
