Our school posts the teachers and classrooms on the front doors of the school a week or so before the start.
That means that I already know that my newly diagnosed 7 year old is getting an older teacher that doesn't have the reputation for being the most patient type of teacher. In the past she has always taught fourth grade so I don't understand why they would put her with second graders unless they are trying to force her to retire or something.

So I'm wondering if I should start writing letters to get him into another class now or not. I have eight kids. We have had this teacher before without incidence but she had a different child of mine - one that wasn't likely to make anyone crazy. This child though is the non-communicator of the stubborn variety.

I would write and explain exactly as you just put it. You make your point well, that it is not a personal issue with the teacher. It is more that you know the teacher's style and you know your child and think a better fit could be made. No harm can come in asking and if you go in expressing concern before the year begins, I would think it should be able to be resolved. Good luck! PS You deserve an award for parenting eight children and remaining involved with each of them! KUDOS to you!

I would write to or call whoever can change what teacher your child has immediately. I remember being a child with a teacher like that, and it was horrible, for me and the teacher (and the rest of the class). I agree with Josiekat, just tell it to the school like you told it to us, they should understand, I am sure they deal with this more than we may think.

Chance of getting a teacher change in my district is slim to none where I live. The main arguement is that too many people would request changes if they allowed it.

I doubt lack of patience would be grounds to get your child into another class.

I doubt lack of patience would be grounds to get your child into another class. This is sadly often the case, but can be accomplished after the child has difficulties in the class by calling a meeting with the entire "team"...;) I have done this myself. Takes tenacity and skill but it is doable.
