I am working on a proposal to present at a major Teacher Institute where thousands of teachers come to take seminars and workshops.
One seminar I would like to offer is based on The Twelve Things Students with ADD Want their Teacher to Know.
I would love to have more input from students so I can make this a session they can really put to use in their teaching. Some questions I am they might ask about are:
homework-turning it in on time-i.e. not forgetting
What about that kid who drums and fidgets-what else can they do?
I have a whole class full of kids, I can't spend that much time with just one.
Some of the things I want to cover are:
Simple ways to teach organizing homework and assignments
Have student write a short paragraph listing the things that help he/she learn best-including where they like to sit.
A simulation of what ADD/ADHD is like
The truth about ADD-most teachers don't know much-and the accommodation file they get is often not much help other than telling them you get extra time for homework and tests, go to a testing room, and so on.
This is not a complete list but I want to know this-if you were presenting this seminar, what are the most important things you would want your teachers to know?
Please share your ideas with me soon! I only get them for 50 minutes.
Thanks so much for your help-I want it to help as many kids with ADD/ADHD as I can by teaching the teachers.
