Hi, daughter has just started taking Adderol 5 mg twice a day for inattentive adhd. I was just wondering about any good or bad comments regarding this drug. She has only been on it for 3 days, today her 3rd day she had a hard time at school (crying alot). I know this can be a side effect at the beginning, but just wanted to hear from someone else that may have experience this drug. Thank you for your time and with any information you can give me.

You should check out the Strattera threads in the Medications section of the forums: http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=91

Just a quick question.... I am new to all of this, and was wondering is adderol close to strattera? I am trying to read has much has possible, but some of this medication is a bit confusing to understand. She seems to be reacting to the medication(not a huge change showing more of her feelings and is alot more talkative), but also is having alot of crying spells. Thank you for any info, that anyone can give. I am trying to learn has much has possible, so I can do everything I can to help my daughter, and I think that feedback from someone that has been thru this is more helpful than reading booklets, and talking to the doctor. Thanks again for any help.

I dont know if your question has been answered but just in case it hasnt been or someone else needs an answer...My child has been on both.
Adderall is a stimulant type drug, If you are in the USA, it is regulated by the FDA as an addictive type substance.(tho dr.s say not when use correctly in ADD/HD children)
Strattera is the FIRST non-stimulant drug to be used in treatment for ADD/HD.
Check the strattera.com web site or even Concerta.com for more information on either med.

to put things in some perspective here, nearly ANYTHING can be addictive, if not used properly (i.e. coffee, sugar, nicotine).

As drewsmom states, Adderal falls into the stimulant class of medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of ADD/ADHD.

Strattera is the first non-stimulant medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of ADD/ADHD. There are, however, other non-stimulant meds that doctor's use, such as Wellbutrin.

My son 9 yr old son has been on Adderall for a few weeks now. At first it was 5mg twice a day. First doz in the morning..second at noon. At about 4pm he would get very emotional (crying and easily iritated). He was very aware of it as well and we told him that when he starts to feel that way to let us know and he would go into his room and do something calming..alone.
Has the drugs helped her to stay focused? I ask because the change we saw in our son was very remarkable. However, in about a week we began to see some of the ADHD symptoms break through and his meds were increased to 10mg twice a day.Today is his first day taking the increase and he seems to be doing fine. I would ask the teachers if her "spells" seem to be coming on at a certain time of the day. We could always tell when my sons was going to happen..it seemed it would happen at the time the meds should be wearing off.
