Hi all,

Has anyone else moved a lot? Like to different cities?

If so, do you have trouble picking the place you'd like to stay? Do you long to be back in places you've lived before or to try a new town you think would be cool? How do you separate feelings of nostalgia from a true desire to live someplace?

I call this my Grass is Greener disease because I always want to live somewhere else. But I'm nearing 40 and it's getting old. I'd like to pick a place to stay. I'm not in love w/ my current location, but I have love/hate relationships w/ every place I've ever lived.

Does anyone else struggle w/ this sort of thing?

yes. we are gypsies. i'm trying to get better about it though. i have kids and it's not good to just up and leave. i deffinately have grass is greener syndrome. i chalk it up to being a gemini though. i have to really control myself to stay where we are until hubby graduates which will be in 4 years. we've stayed in the same state but different cities. people always ask if we are military because we move so much and i'm embarrassed to say no. i guess i'll have to spend what would be deposit money on furniture so we can't move. oh darn:p

people always ask if we are military because we move so much and i'm embarrassed to say no. Ha! People always ask me that, too! Especially now that we live in metro DC.

A therapist told me I have to learn to rearrange my furniture so I don't feel compelled to move so much. I have a sneaking suspicion that won't work as well as she thinks.

I really have no idea how to stay in one place and feel good about it. People do, though, right? So it's theoretically possible.

Hmm....I don't know if we can change it, I sure hope so. I moved around A LOT before I got married, now its only about once a year :p . Luckily, he is in the military, so, we are forced to move. But, when we get out, he wants to buy a house and live there for the rest of our lives  ! While this sounds wonderful, I don't know if I can actually do it. I told him I might be able to stay somewhere if I were to design it...maybe that's why I don't like places long, they aren't ME.

I wonder if not only rearranging furniture, but, painting the walls a different color, completely redecorating each room, and changing the welcome mat would help us? :p

Hmmm. That actually sounds like it might work. I wonder if that's why I'm drawn to the idea of renovating or building a place of our own. My husband fights me on this all the time, says we don't know enough to be do-it-yourself-ers. But maybe if I explain that it will help me stay in one place...

Of course, with my propensity to start lots of projects at once and finish, oh 1%, well...that could get ugly!

:D You would have to find a way to hyperfocus on it everyday you were supposed to work on it. Course, you could always design it, then have a crew build it, then, you would just have to pick out the light fixtures and all that. ;)
