So I take 20mg of Adderall Xr in the early morning and another 10mg at around 2pm.

When I take them I get this really speedy sensation that sometimes can be uncomfortable. This lasts for about 45 min then everything goes back to normal for about 4-5 hours before the full ADHD returns..

anyone experience this?

I've been on it for about 2 months now and it seems like it just stated happening about 3 weeks ago.. I'm not due back to the Pdoc for another 2 weeks so I'd thought I'd try to get some info first..

Thanks.. FLit

If this is new and bothering you this much, call the doc. Your health is important and he/she knows you better than we do. Is it your heart rate? Keep track of your pulse-Adderall causes heart rate problems for many people. This is definitely one to check out-you are probably fine, but he may want to see you earlier or change your dose.

Take care,
RADD

"Rush" or even "speed feeling" frames the conversation in a street drug sort of way. I know that this was not done intentionally but at the same time we must take care in the choice of words we use in describing drug effects.

How would you describe that feeling of being sped up so that it doesn't sound like drug abuse?
I don't see where this was being framed or taken a turn into being a conversation about abusing drugs in a "street' type of way.

I feel that like you, I am an individual who expresses themselves in thier own way. To be "judged" an called out on the choice of words I use because YOU deem them to be street is seems discriminative. :(

I am not being defensive, but I am taking a stance of being offended.

At the same time we must take care of choosing words that might offend or be judgmental on an individual's right to express themselves freely as they please. Not all of us have higher educations or have a complete grasp of the english language.:soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: THAT"S WHY WERE ARE HERE!.I thought this was an ADD forum?? Maybe we should have a conversation on what the symptoms of ADHD are and how this disorder interferes on the way we translate comprehensive thoughts into spoken word.

Thanks for the heads up.. helps me alot.. But I still get that Speedy feeling when I drop. :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot: :foot:

I am not going to change what wording i use to appease others. You're complaing to the wrong person if thats what you're hoping for.

FTR I have always used the term "gritty too much coffee feeling" to describe that feeling :). It is particularly gritty, isn't it? HTH!

definately pay some attention to your pulse during these next couple weeks before your see your psychiatrist. if you can, also pay some attention to your blood pressure. it may be that the dose you are on is too high, or it may be that your are just very sensitive to stimulant like drugs. it's important to report these symptoms to your doc. you'll probably either get a dose reduction or the addition of a beta-blocker to your regime. i'm very sensitive to stimulant drugs and feel much calmer and have a lower pulse/blood pressure now that i'm taking propranolol with my adderall.

if you are drinking caffine, definately cut that out for the next couple weeks and see if it helps.

Since the last post, I actually don;t feel that "boost of energy" any longer (Scuro does that wording work for you???)

I actually did not feel anything like it when I first started the meds. The one day boom... "Energy" for about a week. but now it''s back to normal.

I see my Pdoc this weekend. I am trying to remember what foods I might have eaten that could have triggered that response. I actually got a chart ready in case it happens again.

thanks.. guys.

Glad to hear its working out for ya OP :) and for the record? My only concern with specific wording is because some people in this world do not understand how stimulant meds work on ADDers, and fight against us. If we use wording like "speedy" or "crashing" they gain more ammunition  and I always try to offer newbies some ammunition to use in their (and our) defense.

HTH! And please keep coming here for support; its a great group.

I tottally understand. I have a really bad habit of saying, typing the first thing that comes to mind. (ADHD symptoms 101) "Speedy and Crashing" were the first words that come to mind when I thought about it.. My wife is a cop and those words are precisly what she uses to describe the perps she encounters, so it's the norm in our vocabulary. But still.. WE are not "street" far from it. and I still feel that should be able to express my self in my own way. And so far ALL of my experience with anyone that i have spoken with about ADHD and adderall have been very supportive and positive. Not once have I had to defend myself about it. Nor has any one used "ammo"? the closest thing was people amazed how a stimulant actually calms me down.

But thanks for welcoming me here. Lot's of info all over this site.
Just sux that eh I get slapped on the wrist on the very first post i made.
I'm sticking around.. But it might be a bit too strict here. and judgemental here.
I really need a place to go to where I can be myself and not have to worry about the words I choose while tring to find help and understand what I am going thru.
I just might need a little more support and less reprimand.

Again you guys are awesome.. Thanks for the help.

Again you guys are awesome.. Thanks for the help.Ahh and now I am the one who has the proverbial "cartoon lightbulb" over her head! Makes sense since you have a police officer in the home. And of course you said whatever came to mind, unless you have the cure for ADHD "act first/think later" by any chance?...and if you do, I want it! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92/kzrainbow/heeheeHEEE.gif

I do have to tell you you are among the lucky ones to have so much support and understanding ;) many of us don't. So please forgive me for lumping you in with the newbies who are not so fortunate.

I think you will find that ADDF is neither strict nor judgemental. Welcome!

There are usually only 2 times when I get that feeling. 1) when I haven't really eaten enough. If I don't have a substantial sort of breakfast when I take the Adderall (I'm on 20mg XR first thing every morning), I will feel that sped up WHOOOSH feeling for a couple hours, and sometimes have felt it until I've eaten something. 2) When I haven't been getting enough fluids and am a bit dehydrated. Maybe try taking the Adderall with some food and a large glass of water. Could help.

Again thanks for the welcome.. I really do appreciate it.

And Yes, I do have the cure for "act first think later" Virus. And as a gesture of good faith, I will share the secret.

First sit down in your favorite most comfortable chair, couch, bed.. what ever is clever.

Then calmly untie your shoe (left or right is totally your preference)

Next gently peel of your sock.

** Now this one is tricky**
Take a deep breath

Inhale....

Now squeeze your abdominal muscles... and while you exhale, proceed to place your foot into your mouth.

*I must say that I found this procedure will actually counteract the long term after effect of the "Act first/Think Later" Virus with a success rate of 99.9%
In the past I would have to sit there and pick the dirt and grime out of my teeth because my foot would fly at break neck speed directly into my mouth immediatey after the said "Act". And without any warning!!.. But not any more, because my shoe was already off !
