Like the title says, just started taking Adderall this afternoon. This is the fourth med I've tried and I'm hopeful it'll be a keeper, at least for a while anyway. The doc started me with generic methylphenidate. After some fits and starts (including an extremely unpleasant few days of Bupropion) it worked well. For a couple years. Then side effects led the doctor to suggest Strattera. I loved its positives, but several negatives never went away and I continued for nine months of love/hate before giving up on that. Tried no meds for a little bit, but recent experiences let me know that was not the best plan.

So now it's Adderall XP and fast-acting generic, and see how it works. My biggest concern is that, like methylphenidate, they'll interfere with hard exercise. I don't know if the exercise forum would be a better place for this or not, but what are your experiences with it? I do cardio-centric stuff like running and X-C skiing, as well as some more coordination-and-power martial arts. (Nothing highlighted how well Strattera helped as much as going back to meditating sans-meds.)

What kind of interference with hard exercise do you mean?

Well, talking running, I found that while methylphenidate was "active" I couldn't push the intensity past a certain limit without feeling nauseous, sluggish, and generally whole-body-ill (if that makes any sense). And for a really hard run (extended steep uphill in heat) I'd get that way if I'd ever taken it that day, even if it otherwise felt like it'd long worn off.

As an update, the biggest negative so far was how long the taper was. After taking 20mg that afternoon I didn't get to sleep until 5:30 the next morning. Blah. Backing off to 10mg yesterday seemed to do the trick.
