I've been on Dex for a few weeks now and am on somewhat of a small dose, 15mg/day. I notice that now that my body has gotten used to it I'm pretty lethargic and drowsy allot of the time, especially compared to how I was on Ritalin. Is this common with the amphetamine type drugs used for ADD? When I tell people my dex is making me tired they look at me like I'm nuts since it's basicly speed. Guess that's just another quirk of having ADD. Note though I dont have the hyperactive form, mainly the innatentive form. So what would you all recommend I do? ask for an increase in dose or just drink more coffee?:p

Hi Renton, I also have the inattentive form of ADD, but I happpen to take 60 mg of Dexedrine each day. Granted I have been taking Dexedrine for several years now, and it does take time to find the right dose. I am not trying to tell you that you need a higher dose, but I would suggest that perhaps you should discuss this matter with your Dr., and see what he or she thinks concerning your treatment.

For me, I need a higher dose to function properly. It's important to remember that it does take time to find not only the right drug, but also time to find the right dose of that drug. It took me several years to find this out.

Just know that even if this drug does not turn out to be the best fit for you, that maybe there is another drug out there that will be a better fit. I have tried all the prescription stimulants at one time or another over the years, and I have always come back to Dexedrine. Every now and then I will go back on Desoxyn, but at this time I find the Dexedrine immediate release, at 60 mg a day in 3 divided doses to be the most therapeutic option for me.

How do you get a script for desoxyn? My shrink says hes not comfortable prescribing it.

Hello Renton. I have the same problem in that dex makes me feel drowsy and tired and then when it wears off i get all hyperactive and at night find it hard to get to sleep. l have just started to take it at bed time to get to sleep. I am also on an antidepressant "effexor" 75mg slow release. I have wondered whether its the dex making me tired or a combination of dex and effexor.

Jamf,

Your shrink must suck. Tell him to get comfortable or you will find a shrink that does his job.

Jamf,

Dex is actually a very fine drug, most wakefull of all stims; you probably just need a dosage increase. If you increase the dosage to the point were you get cranky, your taking too much. Back down to the next lower dose or cut a pill in half. Experimentation and the guidance of a good doctor is the key to success.

I now take two 10mg spanules and find that works the best. I think I was just on too low of a dose since I was taking 30-40mg of Ritalin before.

I was taking adderall. I didnt like the side effects that I attributed to the periphial stimulation from the Levoamphetamine it contains. Thats why I asked my shrink about desoxyn. I wasnt aware of dexedrine until I found this site.

The problems I had with adderall was the headaches and insomnia. Im reading that with dexedrine sleeping isnt much of a problem. Its also much cheaper than adderall. Yeah, I hate my shrink. He keeps pushing ssri's
