Trying to find the dose that works for me.... What do you take? Specifically looking for individual doses as well as total daily dose.

How long did it take to get the right dose?

Currently I am taking 2 x 10mg Span in the morning and 1 x 10mg Span in the afternoon for a total of 30mg a day. Still don't feel this is quite where I need to be yet, but it's only been 3 weeks.

Thanks, Nate

I take 20 mg of the immediate release dextroamphetamine (Mallinckrodt's generic version) 3 times a day. It took me about a year & a half or so to find the right dose for this drug as I recall.

Please be patient, and know that it takes some time and effort to find the right drug, and also to find the right dose. It's very much worth the time and effort to find these things. Good luck.

I take 2 15 mg spansules in the morning and 2 15 mg spansules at noon along with 5mg tabs four times a day and 3 5 mg tabs in am... the 2 types for me seem to serve different symptoms i.e. the long acting is more of a slow-down and the shorter acting well they tend to motivate my mind and regulate my focus... the dose 95 mg per day seems like a bit much but in not too long of a time here I will turn 26 and was on dexedrine at age 6 starting at 40 mg then and this is all that is still on the market that is effective for me

Guess I should have specified that I am interested in Dexedrine (IR and Span) only, hence the posting in the Dexedrine section of the forum. Doses of Adderall, Ritalin.... are not really of interest to me. Thanks though.

i like the whole thing with spans, 2 in morning and 1 at lunch it seems like it could really help with the come down if you have problems with that.
did your doctor think of that or you?

did your doctor think of that or you?My doctor told me to try that. So far it works pretty well, start to get a little out of it when they wear off, but never the hard crash.

At my last appointment my pdoc said I should try Dexedrine and gave me scripts for:
#100 IR 10mg tabs and
#150 10mg Span

We then discussed the dosing options and the differences between the IR and the spansule. He told me overlapping the spansules works really well, as well as taking some IR at the same time as the spansules in the morning - since the spansules can take a long time to kick in. He's really good, he even wrote it all down for me so I could remember.

I got the (god forbid) Barr Generic, but don't seem to be having any problems with it. Guess some people are more sensitive then others.

30mg/day (give or take, depending on body weight, so say 20mg-40mg) is the maximum prescribed dose.
How did you get 60mg/day prescribed?

----

I take instant release, 3 x 10mg a day, every 4 hours.

15mg IR 3 times a day.

I simply moved over from adderall 20mg twice daily and some how we ended up at 45mg. I guess thats considered a high dose but given circumstances like weight and prior treatments with all sorts of meds its not outlandish. My only complaint is emotional instability, not like im breaking down crying or being hypomaniac i simply have a much higher emotional response rate to things now. Its probably whats considered "normal" as far as people go.

ugh i just paid for my prescription today (60 ea 5mg tabs and 60 ea 10mg SRs) and it was $98.00!!!! killing me.

anyway, i need it so oh well.

so i'm supposed to take two spanules in the am and one tablet with those, then in a few hours take another 5 mg tablet. but i change the dose accordingly. i wish i didn't have to feel like it would be sketchy to ask my dr. for the 15mg SRs instead of the tens, i think i need that little bit more. how do you guys go about telling your dr. you think you need a higher dose? i've been on this dose for about 6 months.

the dose increase issue is dependent on history as well as frequency in additions in particular... upping it every month the "took it for two weeks and felt nothing. History is a factor also... I can say that I have been anorexic and was dependent on benzo drugs (anti anxiety) and have been considered a "chronic hypomanic" for years considering mood stabilizers were inneffective, as the walking contridiction that that all is and the supposed "highest potential for abuse" I have no history of stimulant abuse and ask for increases when absolutely necessary... but a childhood history of noncompliance of every med out there except dexedrine which was noted as successful therapy on my "chart" only shows that the potential is minimized. I have the sister relationship to the lithium and the bipolar patient to where I tend to "non-comply" and my case is severe enough to be in the "bipolar spectrum" there really is a need that is biological to some extent that reinforces that relationship. Denial, in my case but if there are symptoms that you have tried every other reasonable tool known to man to help then explain that and the doctor will agree to what you ask. I know that my daily dose is "high" but only due to metabolism not to reach a "better effect" which given your dosing schedule may be the issue

i realized i can just tell her about my schedule, classes start at 9 am (wake up at 7) and last class gets out at 8:15 pm, and it is impossible for me to care about the last two classes due to most of the day having already ended.
