My 3 year old daughter has been on Focalin XR for 11 days now. Sunday night she was complaining that her stomach hurt, wouldn't eat and ended up throwing up in the car as we drove home from my parent's house then again when we got home. She was fine yesterday, didn't eat much but no tummy trouble. Then tonight she wouldn't touch her dinner, and it was her favorite, then she threw up. Same time as Sunday too.
She has no fever and shows no signs of being sick. When the medicine is in effect she's still herself, just calmer. Once it wears off we seem to have a moderate rebound but nothing I haven't seen before. No signs of any illness.
I'm going to call the doctor in the morning but I'm assuming I won't get an answer before it's time for DD's meds. Is it okay to skip a day? How common is throwing up while on this drug?
TIA
it could be a bug too. when my 4yo gets the stomache bug she also acts perfectly fine other than vomitting.
in which case i personally would skip the meds anyway until she's well again, but i am not a dr and certainly not recommending that to you.
it must be scary giving powerful meds to such a young baby.
i googled focalin because i'd never heard of it and saw this:

Other side effects seen with Focalin™ XR include vomiting, dizziness, sleeplessness, nervousness, tics, allergic reactions, increased blood pressure, and psychosis (abnormal thinking or hallucinations).

When she threw up on Sunday I figured it was probably just a bug, but then she was fine on Monday and threw up again last night. No one we know has been sick lately (I asked family and checked with the babysitter as well) and she's not a puker by nature.
I'm still waiting for the doctor to return my call.

Just wanted to update and say that the doctor called back. I explained what was happening and she said that while it's unusual for the vomiting to come 12 hours after taking it that it's not unheard of. She told me to not give it to her for a few more days then reintroduce as usual to see if it's the meds or something else that is making her ill. We'll see how it goes.

So DD got up in the middle of the night to come throw up in my bed last night. Why do kids do that?
Anyway, I took her to the pediatrician this morning since she's been off her meds since Tuesday. The ped says it's a weird virus going around and that all her symptoms are more likely from the virus than the Focalin and she said to go ahead and start giving it to her again tomorrow as long as she doesn't vomit today. Needless to say I'm relieved since viruses I can deal with.
lol ... yes. my kids do that too. hope your baby is feeling better today. puke bugs suck. :( my baby had 1 while we were camping and i had to keep reaching for the sand pail. ewwwwww :(
