Hey everyone, just found this forum last night, basically in desperation. This morning things have turned around 1000%, and I just felt like sharing a good success story about my meds.
I've been using adderall on and off this summer, probably too low of a dose or too sporadically to have any real good effect (2.5-5mg as needed, or 10-20 at night if i'm exhausted or out partying). At this point, adderall was giving me mostly negative side effects due to an unhealthy lifestyle, and a lack of a real med schedule (only taking it a few times / week, and never really taking it and meaning to concentrate or get things done),
I had spent weeks at a time without any meds at all. Had tons of mood swings, massive amount of adhd "fog" and inability to motivate myself to do anything because i wouldnt be able to concentrate on it, which led to some depression and anxiety due to being constantly understimulated, bored, and unable to do much. At this point, i was pretty down on adderall, due to it making me feel tired, and mostly exacerbating the physical and mental effects of partying too much.
Last night, i made a final resolution to go back to my clinical dose (10mg IR 2x and as needed) to see if I could find some semblance of a real life, before crying to my psychiatrist to find new treatments for what i thought was bi-polar, depression, and anxiety.
Woohoo! On adderall today, *every* one of my bad adhd symptoms is gone, and i am extremely elated and satisfied, to say the least (obviously some euphoria from my first day back on the full dose :-p). I feel motivated to do things, because i can actually get them done with focus, and because i have some extra physical energy. I also am getting great satisfaction again out of learning and taking in information (1000% change from being frustrated whenever i try to learn). No more brain fog, no more feeling bad about not having energy to do things, and an increase in my control over social interactions. I'm no longer having stupid worries about whether i'll be able to get things done -- i'm just doing them !!:D I have a few issues with side effects that will hopefully go away in the coming weeks, but, all in all, i'm extremely satisfied and really happy to know it was all just adhd, and that the meds actually do help, and that i can continue my normal life again!! (i had given up almost all hope).
Hope this story can help someone.
Oh, one last note, as background information. I'm a college student, have been living with adhd since i was about 7. Adderall has really worked for me in the past, 10mg IR 2x daily for years at a time, but this past spring and summer i had decided to take a break, and probably indulged in too much beer and weed, which obviously exacerbated a lot of my adhd symptoms :o .
Edit: :foot: haha im sorry, being a total noob, apparently, and in my hurry to post, i neglected to notice the "success story sticky". If a mod sees this, feel free to move my post in there. Sorry.
