Howdy out there. I've been on Adderall for a while, and have been considering switching to dex for lack of peripheral side effects, but mostly in order to be able to get on an XR version of a med so I don't have to redose so often during the day. Currently I take 4 doses of IR adderall, as the extended release capsules somehow don't metabolize proper in my system, sometimes it'll all get released at once, sometimes it will peter out like it's supposed to, and its activity can really range from 3 hours to 6 hours in time. This, coupled with the fact that its so much more expensive kind of ruins the whole deal for me. Now, Concerta, even though methylphenidate didn't work too well for me, pumped the med into my system pretty darn effectively. I felt like crap pretty consistantly for 8 hours until it wore off. Any experience with the spansules and how well they work? Thanks!

The spanules are very old, from the fifties. But they seem to work pretty good. They kick in fast and last along time, most of the day for me but I take two of them spaced a few hours apart just to get that extra bit of coverage in the evening though not everyone would need it. I also notice allot has to do with the dosage. If I take a higher dose it tends to last quit a bit longer.

i love them. usually take 2 15mg spanules in the morning. haven't needed to increase dose and its been about 2 years.

I've tried 3 different kinds of extended release ritalin (all left me feeling extremely depressed after wearing off), Adderal XR, and Dexadrine spansules. The spansules work the best for me by far. It seems (and I could be wrong) but dex might work better for ADD innatentive subtype. I take 1 10mg dose in the morning and maybe a 5mg pill of instant release dex (to help studying later in the evening). Though I suspect that mixing the two may interefere with sleep more than the equivelent dosage of either by itself. Adderall XR also made me very moody and quite depressed. Not as bad as Ritalin but bad. All amphetamine-type substances have a downswing end the end though. Dex can be nasty as well if you (I) take too much.
