Does anyone else get depressed the next day after drinking alcohol? I'm sure its because I am on adderall and that affects my mood somehow when combined with alcohol. It really sucks and its one of the reasons I don't like drinking very much. Does this happen to anyone else? I'd like to get some opinions about it or hear about if it happens to others too.

Honestly I get depressed after drinking, that is the main reason I don't drink anymore
It really affected me in college. I had social anxiety and depression because of it

After taking up treatment, I have less desire to drink. A cold one is apreciated after work because it cuts a lot of dryness out of my mouth. These days I am better equipt to leave work stress where it belongs, at work.

Not so much in myself, but def in a good friend of mine. She has BP as well as ADD. She gets very emotional and more depressed after drinking.

Is this a result of my ADD or a result of taking adderall which is a stimulant?

alcohol is a depressant

"sedation and drowsiness produced by the drugs are then readily perceived as depression of the central nervous system"
(drugs = alcohol)

We just talked about this in the Driver Ed class for ADD and LD kids-It is a central nervous system depressant-and impairs decision making and judgment, causes a sense of invulnerability.

How much have you consumed the night before when this happens? A bender would guarantee it! Plus, most people get dehydrated when they drink-and do not eat enough food. Vitamin B supplements can help the next day, not the hair of the dog. Plus lots and lots of water-drink to thirst though, don't overdo the water-that can cause problems too-hyponatremia-though it is usually seen in athletes. It depletes blood sodium levels-some athletes have died. Any medical folks, please correct any misinformation, but this is pretty well known stuff.

You know the old joke, Doctor, doctor, it hurts when I hit my thumb with a hammer. Doc says, well then, don't hit your thumb with a hammer. If drinking makes you feel this bad, you really need to make a decision to avoid alcohol totally or greatly reduce the amount you consume to one or two very ocassional social drinks, consumed very slowly while out with friends. Plus, get bottled water if necessary to stay hydrated and eat lean proteins and complex carbs. But the long term effects of too much alcohol are just not worth taking that risk. I drink, but infrequently, and always make sure I eat and at least get a glass of ice to suck on for water.

Speaking as an ex professional drunkard(tm) you need to get yourself to eat some sort of potassium rich foods when hungover. Bannanas are really the best choice.

Are you supposed to drink when on Adderall? I seem to remember something about meds and booze causing hangovers even when only a small amount of alcohol is consumed. If I feel like a drink, I choose to have it with a meal.
