Does anyone know if Lexapro can help or does tend to help with BPD?

I have BPD, Depression, GAD, and ADHD.

Currently I am taking Lexapro for my depression and gad, and was wondering if Lexapro can help with my BPD, although it does not seem like it.

I welcome any response on this.

Thank you :)

Hiya,

Lexapro is for Depression (and by default, for Anxiety/GAD). Depression and Anxiety are often common bedfellows. Two sides of the same coin, if you will.

There is no specific drug for just BPD.

Personality Disorders are believed to occur in early childhood. eg There are several periods of Bonding (before 3 years of age) that are crucial in Personality development. http://members.tripod.com/~radclass/slide05.html

The #1 recommended treatment for BPD is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), created by Dr. Marsha Linehan.

In fact, DBT is found to improve outcomes like no other therapy for DBT.

A clinic or hospital near you may offer it.

Up to 75% of people with BPD also note a trauma history; so Trauma Therapy programs using a group therapy model may be helpful, also, for people who have that situation.

Dr. Linehan has published a few books. You might be able to find them on EBAY.com for cheap.

Janet I believe I mentioned to you before that medications do not treat BPD? They may help with the anxiety/depression aspects, but the work to cure it must take place in therapy.
