Hi, I am new to the ADD Forum. I have a 5 year old boy who had previously been diagnoses with ADHD by a family physician out here in southwest ks, and was given meds. We tried ritalin and strattera and to be honest the ritalin was a living nightmare and the strattera worked well. Until, we took him off his meds for a surgery, and then we saw how much the strattera was making him be flat. He didnt smile spontaneously and hardly ever looked like he was having a good time. Anyway, to make a long story short I hate to put him back on meds, because it seems sad to have him be so flat when he is so alive without them. We are starting to have problems in school again, the teacher is trying her hardest but he is causing alot of problems with distractiing the other kids. He is an extremely intelligent child, but is very hyper. I have been advised to take him to a specialitist, instead of a family practice doctor, but havent had any luck with my search for one. If anyone can recommend me a good specialist, I would greatly appreciate it, or any advice you can give me. We feel that we are stuck between a rock and hard place with this one. We want him to be a good student, but we want him to be happy and not be a zombie at the same time. Thanks again for any advice.! by the way, we are looking for a physician near our area, but are willing to do some traveling for a good doctor. We live in the southwest part of Kansas.
