I realize very few of us ever get diagnosed before we do something drastic like jumping in front of a bus but im sure theres a few out there. I've been dysthymic since i was an early teen and its really destroyed my life. Only recently did i get officially diagnosed (this was after about 10+ anti-depressants).
So hello from the grey dysthymic reality.

Holy Sheeshhh!! How Funny!! I was just about to click over to something else on the Internet (bored already . . . ) when I read, "Dysthymics - Check In!" Suddenly - I feel a surge of excitement as I realize, "Hey! That's ME!"
OK - I guess the excitement's over already. I'm bored and need to switch gears. But I hope to remember to come back to meet more of my (our) people soon. I'll also try to remember to "expand a little" in regard to my dysthymia. (It's so interesting, ain't it?)
Thanks for the topic, DBC!
Lacklusterly yours,

I'm here and checking in! I love it: "The Grey Dysthymic Reality"! You got that right!
We can all take one repeated long "blah" sigh after another, together now!
Hello,
My name is Rob and I just got diagnosed for it about three months ago. Doc thinks I have had this for the last 13 years. It's great to find more people to be able to relate to. At least I know that your out there somewhere.
Befor meds I used to feel like I was being crushed with the burden of having to carry all the horrors this world has to offer. Now on the med's I really feel much better. I dont think I have felt this way since I was a young child. But now I have seemed to have lost the driving force behind my life. I knind of feel unmotivated. I am wrecking my grades and flushing my dreams down the toilet. I realize the consequences but it doesnt seem like thats enough for me to do something about it. This very unlike me.
Let me know if anyone has advice.

That's me too! What do we do after check-in? Shuffle board on the Lido deck? Maybe we should all lay out in the sun on the beach to get a little extra sunshine this time of year! To the Bahamas! Onward, D.B.!

Rsa11b (rob)Rob, anti depressants did pretty much the same to me, plus caused tics. Once I got off them though, I found that I was in a better place than before I started them. Sometimes, the medications are enough to help get out of the depression and then with an active effort on your part you can stay out -- for me it took counseling, exercise, Omega III fatty acids, prayer, and good friends -- but thankfully I haven't slipped back into the soup.

I can appreciate that feeling. Does it help to clarify your Goals? (LT and ST)
