i read on this forum someone found that costco had a great price on generic adderall. i'm a member, but i hadn't ever used their pharmacy. i recently had to switch insurance and my new coverage doesn't pay for ADHD related anything (pre-existing). my script is for generic adderall 10mg #90 and it usually cost between $100 and $120 to fill without insurance (at target, walgreens, etc).

so today i took this months script over to costco (it's little out of the way for me) and oh my god... it was only $32! talk about a drastic price drop! that's just crazy... it's the exact same generic as i've been getting from walgreens at 1/3rd the price! i probably never would have discovered this if it wasn't for the add forums, so thanks everyone. that's a lot of money over the course of a year - $700.

i wonder why it is they are so much cheaper? perhaps the other pharmacies are just marking the generic up and making a killer profit... it would seem that costco may price their drugs as a set percent over cost?

anyone know how much lexapro cost at costco?

Excellent question simbryo. I posted on this very subject last month, but instead of retyping everything I said last month I am just going to post a link to my post.

What kind of adderall is this? IR or XR. I would guess its IR, because I dont think there is a XR generic yet. How many pills are you getting?

http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31519nice post, lars. you raise many good points. across the board drugs are too expensive in the US. and as we switch from an acute to chronic model of healthcare, this will only become a bigger problem. more people on more drugs more often for longer periods of times.

and of course, once you have a diagnosis, if you have to buy your own health insurance you'll never get that diagnosis covered! the only hope is through group plans.

i'm just glad i found this site and costco.

I currently pay $5 for generic adderall through Wal-Mart. Not sure if it's due to insurance coverage or the generic pricecut.

Is that one of the meds on Wal-Mart's $4 new generic price? I don't need a refill until next month...but guess I should check and see if that's one of the drugs on there.

I know exactly what you mean!!! I paid the Walgreens rip off price one to many times myself. When I found out about Costco, I was really angry. I wanted to know how Walgreens can get away with that. I actually called the corporate office and asked them, they said someone would call me back, they never did. I refuse to shop there now.

It's been my experience that Walgreens is not the only one doing this. I have found CVS, and Right Aid pharmacies to be as bad as Walgreens it when it comes to price gouging. :(

I am aware, I try to stay away from them all if I can. The reason I only mentioned Walgreens is because that is the place I went every time for my rx.

I don't have any insurance either. I can get 60 x 10mg RANBAXY (generic Adderall) tabs at SavOn Pharmacy for $26. I'm happy with that. :)

However, now that I've been bumped up to 30mg/day, it will be 90 x 10mg tabs per month. So, I wonder how much that will increase the price... hmmmm?

My Dr. informed me several years ago that most pharmacies have price breaks when a prescription is for 100 or more pills. Each of the prescription stimulants that are schedule II's come in bottles of 100. When a pharmacy has to break up a bottle of 100 pills to fill a prescription for 30 or 90 pills, they charge much more than they do when the prescription is for 100, 200, 300, etc.

I would suggest that the next time you see your Dr that you remind him/her of the fact that you do not have insurance, and that a friend told you about how most pharmacies usually offer price breaks for prescriptions of at least 100 pills. ;)

Thank you so much for that little tip. I was not aware of that. However, with that being said, I don't think I'm able to fill a prescription with more than a 30 day supply at the pharmacy, right? Well, maybe for a different drug, but not for a schedule 2 amphetamine. Maybe I'm wrong here, but that is just what I thought the law was. :o

Maybe I'm wrong here, but that is just what I thought the law was. :oMaybe that's the law in TX? I am not sure it against the law in the rest of the country since my Dr has been prescribing me 400 of the 5mg Dexedrine tablets for many years, and I don't think he would continue to do it if it were illegal to do so. I also think one of the many pharmacist I have dealt with over the years would have said something by now too. Also, I remember reading once about another member here at the site who gets a 3 month supply of Desoxyn prescribed each time he/she gets a new prescription.

Everytime I get a new prescription of Dexedrine it says on the label:

Quantity: 400 tablets
Days: 33

Perhaps you should check and be sure whether or not it is illegal where you live. It certainlly wouldn't hurt to contact a local pharmacist in your area just to be sure. ;)

Oh it actually says 33 days on your script? Okay I see. I think it is just a 30 days supply in Texas. Maybe I'll call and ask about the 100 tabs thing. That would be... about 33 days for me too. I'll check that out Lars. Thanks! :)

Even if that doesn't work.... I'm still thinking it shouldn't be too bad for getting 90 Addy tabs. BUT here's another cost issue for me..... I'm paying $75 for a 10 minute doctor visit every 30 days (!!!!) It is really adding up. Not having insurance sucks. :(

Once I get the meds exactly how I want them, I'm thinking about asking him if I can just come pick up the script (though they charge a $15 fee just for picking up a prescription). Or perhaps coming in once every 3 months and having him just write "do not fill until...." on each script. (?)

Anyone have any experience with this?

I often do that, and there has never been a problem for me doing that. The important thing for me about doing this was to avoid doing it chronically.

I would explain to your Dr that the cost of an office visit is something that is really causing you to struggle, and I would ask him flat out if there is anyway that you could just see him/her in person every other month, or every couple of months instead of every month. It certainlly would not hurt to ask. ;)

Thanks Lars. I have an appointment with him at the end of this month... but I think I'm going to say something at the appointment after this one.

See, I'm thinking ahead here. I'm going to wait until I get pretty much totally stabilized/happy on a certain prescription.... That way I can be like, "I've been on this for a couple months now and its working really well for me... So I was hoping I could just come in and get my scripts from now on..." yada yada... then just say that I'll still come in for appointments whenever he says I need to.

See, I used to come in every 3 months when I had awesome insurance. I could get 3 months supply of my ADD meds, so I only came in to get a new script every 3 months.

*sigh* Paying $75 EVERY single month is just out of control. He must understand this!

My Dr. writes me 3 scripts at a time and 2 of them have "do not fill until ____". She will even mail me 3 more so I'm only seeing her 2-3 times per year and I pay $75.00 for a 30 minute med review.

Hey, so I work at Walmart and asked the pharmacy about there Adderall on the cheap list. She told me that it is not Adderall, it is Ritalin. Then she gave me all the info about the Generic Ritalin.
I was so excited to get Adderall for cheap, but then I was crushed. I dont want to switch to Ritalin. I read somewhere that Ritalin has a calming effect. This would be bad for me considering I am ADHD-inactive.

Just thought I should let you know......maybe you should double check and make sure that thy are not giving you Ritalin instead of Adderall.......but hey, if it works. It should be all good. and let me know!

I use a store that specializes in discount generics called Acology Pharmacy. Without insuance, I get 120 of Ranbaxy 20mg amphetamine salts for $55. This is a good price, however the bad news is my pdoc cost me $125/mo for a 30min session to which I’m always 15mins late for. I belong to Sams which is like Cosco. I’ll call them for a price check tomorrow.

I wish we had a costco in my area. Sounds like they have some really good deals on meds. I have seen several posts on their low prices.
