I'm not sure if it's the Adderall or the Lexapro. *~ §EEK ~* 09-25-06, 03:45 AM I got Tics when I took Lexapro, and I've never had Tics with any of the other (12+) antidepressants I've taken in my lifetime! (BTW, Lexapro was the only medication I was taking at the time.) As for stimulants causing Tics I found the following information. From --> http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/psych-training/seminars/adult%20adhd.pdf (Page 25) STIMULANTS: Around 30% of adults with ADHD either do not respond to or cannot tolerate stimulants. Those with comorbid anxiety may be less likely to tolerate stimulants. There is decreasing concern for risk of tics with stimulants. Up to 60% of children may develop mild, transient tics. The presence of Tourette’s or pre-treatment tics does not prohibit the use of stimulants, but a lower dose may be used. Well, that complicates things doesn't it? :D . Your doctor will probably stop one or the other medication to find out which one is causing the tics! . Anyway, you should call your doctor and find out what you should do! . Peace! :) Nocturnal 09-25-06, 04:11 AM I got Tics when I took Lexapro, and I've never had Tics with any of the other (12+) antidepressants I've taken in my lifetime! The thing is, I've been on Lexapro for a while now but only recently has the tics really annoyed me to the point that it is semi-interfering with my life. I see my doctor on Tuesday and I am going to be sure to bring it up with him. Perhaps I can change to a different SSRI like Paxil or Zoloft. *~ §EEK ~* 09-25-06, 04:57 AM Actually, I believe what I had was called "Tardive Dykensia" which you can read about in this thread --> Rant about not informing patients bad drug side effects (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32118) My legs kept twitching/jumping sporadically. It stopped 3-4 days after I stopped taking Lexapro! This was the only time in my life that I ever developed this leg twitching/tics on a medication! Hope this helped! :) Good luck! Nocturnal 09-25-06, 02:43 PM If you switch from one medication to another, is there any withdrawal symptoms? Say I want to switch from Lexapro to another SSRI such as Zoloft or Paxil, will I experience any withdrawal symptoms? I will ask my doctor on Tuesday but from your first hand experience, did you have it happen to you? *~ §EEK ~* 09-25-06, 03:51 PM Personally, I've never had withdrawal from any antidepressant. However, I've read here on our forums that some people apparently go thru some sort of withdrawal with some of the antidepressants. But as I said, I've never experienced any withdrawal symptoms. My doctor usually had me stop whatever antidepressant I was on for a week or two (depending on the 1/2 life of the antidepressant I was on) before starting a new antidepressant. I was on Prozac and Concerta and developed involuntary facial and eye movements. I got off both and gradually the movements have receeded. I've just got an occasional one now. It started after I was began Prozac, so I think that's the one at fault in my case, although I'm not positive. Stimulent medication can also trigger tics, but I took Concerta for a year and a half with no problem, until I started Prozac and 3 weeks later began to have problems. While it's not real common, some of us seem to be extra sensitive to the drop in dopamine caused by the rise in serotonin levels (sea-saw effect). You might read the first chapter of Prozac Backlash on line at http://www.prozacbacklash.com/pdf/prozBackCh1.pdf -- it talks about these involuntary movements starting on Prozac and the other SSRI's -- stories, examples, research, risks, etc. Scattered Nocturnal 09-25-06, 06:57 PM I think I may want to try go off of it altogether. I'm going in tomorrow, wish me luck. Scattered 09-25-06, 09:21 PM Hope things go well at the doctor's -- let us know!:) |
