How can any "normal"person take 72 milligrams of amphetimine (concerta) and go back to sleep in minutes??? I cant take it anymore!!! I am so sleepy and tired all of the time I can sleep all day and NOTHING seems to make a difference. A year ago (after dx) I started with 36 mg and thought my world had changed forever!!!:) But now, 64 mg, now 72 and I cannot think, concentrate or stay awake or even wake up in the morning:faint: . I am also on antidepressents, so I dont believe that's my problem......

I am late for work this morning....again! I cant go on like this or Im going to get fired. I am not only back to square one (before dz and tx) I am back 3 squares from where I started. Someone, anyone get to this point a year after treatment???

Jen,

I'm currently taking Adderall- so I really can't answer this question, since it deals with Concerta (methylphenidate hydrochloride).

I do know that depression, sometimes contributes to fatigue, though.

Hey Jen...and what is your definition of "normal"? You sound like a normal ADDer to me :D. At 72 mg.s of Concerta and that drowsy? Maybe ya wanna try what I did...set your alarm for several hours before you need to be active. Get up, gobble Concerta and go back to bed. I would wake up properly medicated and less drowsy when I did that.

I guess I am not "normal" either. My Concerta dosage made me very sleepy until I adjusted to it and that took quite some bit of time. Shoot, coffee makes me drowsy too....

I am glad this is "normal" because Concerta makes me feel drowsy too and I am only on 36 mg.. maybe I will try the whole taking it early, sleeping, then getting up thing to see if that works for me because I have found that once I am drowsy, it sort of screws the whole day up for me you know... worth a try.

Trust me CLT, its totally normal...for an ADDer! ;) The go-back-to-bed method really worked for me!

It might be nice to know what type of anti-depressant you are on. It's not really surprising to me that you are drowsy. These meds make many ADDers drowsy. Have you ever thought about asking your doctor about Strattera or an amphetamine-based drug (Dexedrine, Adderall) that tend to have more effect on norepinephrine, or at least, I believe? Many still experience sedation, but I wonder if it wouldn't be as bad?

All in all, different meds work better than others for each person. As always, talk to your doctor, and if he is incompetent, get a new one... :)

Thank you all for your responses. I honestly dont think"normal"exists. Or at least its all relative. I've just never been so sleepy in my life. Its so frustrating!!!High Functioning, I am taking Cymbalta, 60 mg. Seems to really do the trick for the depression after trying Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin and Paxil.. Now my Dr has suggested I have a sleep study done and see if theres something up there. I dont think I have any choice at this point but to do the sleep study. Sleeping all weekend is not working out well for me or my son.

I'm not on stimulantrs, but caffiene usually knocks me out. If I drink a cup of coffee or a can of diet pepsi, it usually ends up being nap time for me.
