So I'm doing a quick stint for a few months at another office from my firm, and I love the people I'm working with, and they seem to really like me as well. But today, one of my coworkers suggested I see a doctor because I may have a balancing issue, and she was sincereley concerned for me......now I know that the reason I'm such a freaking clutz and trip over everything is because I'm not paying attention to my surroundings, and in turn, bump/trip. BUT I don't want to tell my co-workers about my ADD--it's just something I'd rather not do.....but I don't want them wondering what brain damage I have either....btw, this is not the first time a concerned co-worked suggested I check my ears (which, btw, are fine). So....here's my question-- any good realtistic excuses taht I can give my well-meaning coworkers without revealing my ADD? Should I just say that I tend not to pay attention to where I'm walking/sitting? That sounds kind of wierd if there's no ADD context.....

Advice?

Thanks!

Don't make excuses for yourself. If you commit a socail faux paux do apologize for your blunder. Beyond that, be strictly business. Ask people to clarify when you need it. Ask people top repeat themselves if you need to. You should not have to apologize for being you.
Don't hesitate to check something twice, even three times if yoyu are not sure. Just do what you have to do to do your job. You don't need an excuse for that.

You're co worker probably meant 'equilibrium', in general- not your ears, as in a physical definition of the word.

I do agree with Speedo, though...

Ask people to clarify themselves..

And you, don't need to give an excuse for being clumsy, at times...or tripping.

I agree with Nova and Speedo....never make excuses for anything as it makes things look worse than what they are, I have to pull myself up when I do it.

If someone is pulling you up for something it's up to THEM to repeat or clarify things to you.

No doubt, CG !

I figure if they aren't up to clarifying themselves...IMO, they're just being slightly arrogant.

Where I work, communbicatinos is important. If you are a good communicator the job is much easier. We have good people, and a pretty good work environment. We tend to focus on the solutioons more than mistakes.. Mistakes are a fact of life and we don't try to hide them. We identify them, correct the problem, and move on. As soon as you start hiding mistakes your ability to overcome them is impaired.

In a complex and difficult project the thing that matters most is accurate and clear communications, and we put a lot of effort into it and it gets results. We tend to forgive each other for our imperfections, and we overlook personality quirks, because if we get focused on those things we are simply distracted from the real task. In fact, some of our collective oddness is a great source of humor to us. :p

Yeah, I guess I don't really need any excuses. In terms of my actual work, they're all happy with it, so it's not much of an issue of the business part. I guess with friends, I don't have a problem telling them why I'm such a clutz (even though before I was dx, I really thought something was messed up with me). But Because ADD can change people's prespective on you and your work, I'd rather not go into it.... I guess they can just think that something's physically worng with me. Whatever. I guess I wrote that post right after one of my co-workers had suggested I see a doctor, so I was a bit upset.

lol--I wonder what people would think of my "good" qualities if they realized it was due to ADD--ie being highly energetic, able to pull through crisis situations, and being able to think differently. Ah well, I guess you get some bad with the good :)

"textbook gemini" is what i always used prior to being diagnosed ;)

seriously, ever read a gemini personality profile? it's as if they took ADHD and stuck an astrological name on it. Bizarre, i tell ya.

Hmm, when I was diagnosed, my school counselor told my mother that I was, and I quote, "too smart to have ADD", and that I was just lazy and unmotivated. Since that time, nobody I have worked with and very few of my teachers/profs have known about my ADD. I don't think they'd understand it.

I always thought Aquarius was textbook ADD! I use the ""sorry, I'm such a klutz"
At 52, I can claim senior moment to keep some dignity-they laugh then-but not ADD. Or I just say duh! I usually make some pun or joke to put them off guard, have done it since 1st grade-kinda my method of self-preservation.

RADD...would make sense since Aquarians are air signs, like geminis.

It is interesting that on the astrological sign poll, the distribution is pretty even-lowest % is 7.16. Highest is Gemini w/10.88.

So, we cannot make a corelation or establish an astrologial dominance of any sign for people with ADD-it is just a little heavier on the Gemini side-but, are Gemini's more likely to take a poll than other signs? and there is no random sampling, and is only a voluntary collection of data-unreliable at a best and invalid at worst.

I'm just a klutz by nature. My mom use to call me Grace as a child as a joke.If my husband leaves his size 13 shoes ANY where in house besides the closet I will find them and trip. I can't find my keys, shoes, or cellphone but I have no problem finding his shoes. People say stuff like that to me I say "yeah, that's just me".
