I was quite vocal about odd side effects with the Mallinckrodt 5 mg tabs here not too long back... i.e. paranoia, well I had the generics again and this time I observed that 5 or 10 mg doses of this brand make me paranoid and keep me up for a week straight not eating etc... this coming from a person as a teen who to 60 mg of the desoxyn gradumet (meth pills) every day and slept like a baby... yet even odder a 15 or 20 dose of that med there is no paranoia and I actually sleep... I cant understand that happening but I hope the glaxxo brand is Available next month. Any one else have inconsistency with this brand??? I think this brand's "spansule" is the best of the long actings which is why I am confused.

Im trying the mall IR tabs finally and i've got to say they're definetly better than dextrostat. Maybe you should give those a try? Im pretty sure shire makes dextrostat spansules.

I'm glad to read that there is someone else who feels an actual difference between the 5 mg & 10 mg IR Mallinckrodt tablets. I have felt strongly about this for years, and I have developed a theory as to why there is a difference between the two. IMO, the 5 mg IR Mallinckrodt tablet is a generic version of Dexedrine, and the 10 mg IR Mallinckrodt tablet is a generic version of Dextrostat.

As far as IR dextroamphetamine tablets are concerned, the brand name Dexedrine is only available in a 5 mg IR tablet, as compared to the brand name Dextrostat which is available in a 5 mg and a 10 mg IR tablet. I found no difference between the effects of the 5 mg IR Mallinckrodt tablet and the effects of the 5 mg IR Dexedrine tablet. The 10 mg IR Mallinckrodt tablet seemed similar in its effect on me to the 10 mg IR Dextrostat tablets.

I contacted Mallinckrodt a couple of years ago seeking an answer concerning this very subject. I was directed to a pharmacist at Mallinkcrodt who is in charge of the IR dextroamphetamine tablets. She was very pollite, and we talked for about 20 minutes as I recall, but she would never give me a direct answer concerning my theory. She just kept rephrasing her same answer to me that the active ingredient in the Mallinckrodt IR tablets was the same active ingredient that is found in the Dexedrine IR tablets. I remember saying to her, "yeah I know that" each time she would tell me that same answer, but after 20 minutes I felt like she was simply not willing, or simply not able to answer my question directly.

On an interesting side note, Mallinckrodt supplies Glaxo Smith Kline with the chemicals to manufacture Dexedrine. Since 1999 Mallinckrodt has partnered with GSK to co-promote the brand name Dexedrine.

I called GlaxoSmithKline today and they said Abbott Labs is no longer making Dexedrine.
