I'm now taking one 15 mg adderall xr in the morning, but I swear that the benefits start wearing off 4 to 5 hours after I take it.

Is this possible?

I thought it was time released and there would be a second kick-in after 4 or 5 hours, but I haven't found that to be teh case.

PS has anyone tried the ritalin patch. If the adderall doesn't work, that's next. I'd be interested in any experiences with it.

My doctor just upped me from 20 mg XR once a day to twice a day. I was finding that by the late afternoon it was already worn off. I've been on the twice a day dose now for about a week and it has really helped me get through the evening hours.

you take your second dose in the late afternoon....how are you able to sleep?

I'm on 15 mg too and it wears off after about 3 or 4 hours

xr is supposed to be 12 hour acting but 15mg is a low dose

I'm going to ask to bump up the dosage to 20, you should do the same before trying something else

remember: nothing works better than adderall;)

For now, my doctor said I can supplement with the generic adderall I still have.

I'll talk with her again in 3 weeks, at which time she'll up the dose. She said it's up to me if I want to go to 15 mg twice a day or 30 mg once a day.

Any opinions?

Abideshu, .. it really wore off after 3 to 4 hours? Thats about the same duration as the generic:(

15mg is pretty low. I bet 30mg would be best but might be a little too much to jump on right away. I'd ask your doc about upping you to 20mg XR once a day then maybe adding either a 2nd dose of XR or a booster IR dose.

Also try taking your 15mg XR with an Antiacid pill like Zantac or Pepcid. If you look at the prescription literature (yeah I know, who reads those things besides science nerds :) ) it says that anything acidic (OJ, Soda, or anything with an acid ingredient) will reduce the amount of amphetamine your stomach can absorb. If you create a more alkaline environment (basic) by using an antiacid your stomach will absorb much more amphetamine include of disposing of it via urine.

Give it a shot. I take a pepcid about 1 hour prior to taking my 20mg XR and it works wonders!

15mg is very low so increasing it may help, though after some time you may or may not have to add a 2nd dose. I take 30 mg of Adderall XR at 7AM and it wears off around 3:30-4PM. It use to not wear off till the evening. I was going to ask for a 2nd dose to take later in the day but I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep so right now I'm just living with it.
