View Full Version : 24 y/o, primarily Inattentive, just starting on this stuff
Dissident 10-14-06, 05:37 PM This is my first day (6th hour?) on Concerta, 36mg dose. I think I'll keep this thread updated as I go.
One question first, though.
I notice on the bottle it says "may cause drowsiness or dizziness". I don't think either my pysch or the pharmacist mentioned that, but I'm definitely feeling it. Any chance that it'll go away with time?
Like most meds that can cause these side effects, as your body gets used to the med the side effects go away. You might see them again if you skip a few days and start again or if you increase your dose. If it does not go away ask your doctor to change you to a different med. Are you having any good effects?
Dissident 10-15-06, 05:56 AM I think I'm feeling some good stuff, but it's hard to be sure looking at just one day (and feeling like I just gave blood slowed me down a bit).
I'm starting off a four-day weekend now. I'm going to see if I can make decent use of it. If I have four reasonably productive days in a row, that would be a big anomaly.
lyenome 10-18-06, 09:49 PM I also got that drowsy feeling when I first started taking the 36mg dose of Concerta. It was a strange feeling, because I expected the medicine to give me a boost, but it seemed to do the opposite. As I have titrated up, now at 90mg, I notice that I am much more attentive and don't really get sleep during the day. I am still working through my side-effects, and I am hoping they pass, becasue this dose seems to work well for me as far as ADHD symptoms go. As for the dizziness, I have felt light headed a couple of times, but not too bad.
Dissident 10-19-06, 12:32 AM This was day five... I'm only noticing extremely mild side effects at this point.
The positive effects are kind of subtle but definitely there and making a difference. I think I can live with this stuff, although if I can get adjusted properly I might try for a higher dose.
It sort of feels like I can direct my brain where I want it to got a lot more easily. I'm getting to the point where it feels sort of normal. Kind of pleasant, actually.
SDspedTEACHER 10-19-06, 01:06 AM I've tried Adderall for about 2 months now, it didn't really do very much for me. Today the doctor suggested we try something else. We decided that Concerta would be the next choice. I'll keep my effects updated here as well. Good luck to all, I hope this does more than the Addy did for me.
Dissident 10-20-06, 08:52 PM Yow. I was thinking I felt much more like myself today, as the light-headedness seems to have kind of gone away. But I've felt kind of anxious and uncomfortable all afternoon, and I sort of feel like my heart is pounding now. It's not horrible but it's not that great.
Least productive day in a while on top of it. Ah well, I suppose we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Honda Shadow 10-20-06, 09:28 PM Well this is 3 weeks into concerta. Was taking 27 mg along with wellb 100 mg twice a day. I thought I was doing really good on it since I seem to handle my mothers passing and all the stress that went with it. However, I was switched to 2 l8 mg in am and 18 in the evening. Somethings gone wrong. I don't understand it. It's the same mgs. So I tried taking 1 18 mg at 6 am then 4 hours later I took another 18 then around 1 I took the other. I can tell you that I feel out of control so angry totally out of control. Not like me or like before when I started the med. I did feel quite racy when I took 2 of the 18 mg that's why I spreaded the pills out like some of you suggested. Today was quite stressful. Could this have something to do with it. Also since I'm so stressed I ate stuff that I really didn't want. I paid for it too. Stomach ache terribly. I usually have low blood pressure readings, but I feel as if my top of my head is about to explode. What's definitely driving me crazy is the noise. My husband has the TV up so lound, I just shake. Yes, I've told him to turn it down. Oh, h l I'll go an take a xanax maybe that will help. Please help with any advice. I'm quite upset after I boasted how good I was feeling.
Honda, I would say the dose is probably to high, perhaps you increased you dosage to quickly. Why did you switch to two 18mg in a.m and 18mg in evening? Perhaps 27mg or 36mg of concerta in a.m, plus ritalin I.R in evening might work better. I think that at times dosages are raised to quickly, then all of a sudden it's hard to know what is going on. Why are you taking wellbutrin and ritalin together? i would imagine that would create anxiety and agitation (wellbutrin and ritalin both effect dopamine/norepinephrine). I know wellbutrin and ritalin work differently, but they still could potentially raise dop/nore to much.

How goes it now?

Dissident 11-29-06, 09:40 PM Underwhelming.
I'm up to 72 as of last week. I dunno. I... guess it helps? I'm better off with it than without it, but it's not exactly a miraculous change.
No horrible side effects but the 72 definitely has more punch. I can feel my heart beating right now, I sweat more, every once and a while I have to just stop and take a deep breath.
And here I am messing around on the internet. Blah. Guess I'm not holding up my end of the deal, can't blame everything on the drug. Maybe it's doing what it's supposed to, maybe it's not.
