View Full Version : Posting pictures? Wheel1975 12-07-03, 02:39 PM Who can help me with posting pictures? I'm working this from my Mac... Thanks! Notice that on this particular page, the code is OFF. Therefore, you couldn't post an image on this thread (via HTML or IMG) if you had to. (At least as far as I know.) But, if you go to a thread where [IMG] is ON, you just click the IMG button at the top of the text dialog box, enter the COMPLETE and ACCURATE path to where the image resides, hit the OK button and you’re in like Flynn. But, I can tell by your message, that you don’t know how to find and then express the exact, complete and accurate path to the images. “If” you had a website, and let’s say it was unicycleriderwithadd.com, you’d locate (upload) your images to your sites images folder and then, the path would be: [img]http://www.unicycleriderwithadd.com/images/yourimagename.jpg. I don’t think the tiff would post. Also, I’d rename your image files – removing all spaces. Like: BTV002.jpg. I know this explanation will probably do more harm than good, but it didn’t seem like there was a crowd offering solutions to you, so I thought I’d jump in. Oh, I don’t know why the moderators choose to have the HTML and IMG settings set differently for one topic (thread?) to the next. The information (above) may not be totally accurate. It’s just my best guess. I know you’re on a MAC, so all solutions may not apply. If anyone wants to correct my instructions in any way, shape or manner, feel free. Hope this helps, EkimDam Wheel1975 12-07-03, 06:13 PM So we really post links to pictures, not upload the image itself! thank you. And I didn't know about the "image" thing either. Thanks! Andrew 12-07-03, 06:45 PM Ok...here's the scoop on Pictures: You can add pictures in 2 different ways. When clicking on the REPLY button below a message, you're given the choice of browsing for, and inserting (and uploading) an image to your post. The other way to add an image, is to follow MadMike's directions. However, if the section of the forums you're posting in, prohibits adding images, then you wont be able to. Wheel1975 12-07-03, 09:20 PM Thank you too! Ace 12-07-03, 10:08 PM This isn't really news to me, because I've never been able to post pictorial stuff. Unless my photos (or graphics, images, and typography) are already on a site on the web somewhere (instead of existing as a file on my Mac), I am - out of luck. Have I got this part right? How did you photogenic folks get your handsome mugs in the space to the left below your names? Wheel1975 12-07-03, 11:23 PM Ah flattery will get you everywhere... but what happens when you stop? < grin > I have a camera on my computer. a program that came with it will allow me to take a snape shoot. (I'm not sure i could do this again without going through the entire discovery process again!) I had to convert it from tiff to jpeg. That required "export" instead of "save as"... i was lucky I found it. then i punched around on the buttons in blue at the top until I found something that let me change my avatar. afte tying two or three times, that was the result. I was worn out! I'll put a better picture up, if i can figure out what "better" would be! Good luck! I hope somebody else can give you step by step instructions... I really wasn't counting on having to tell anyone, so i didn't leave bread crums as i did it! citruscat2002 01-08-04, 09:35 PM oh ho -- that's why I couldn't post pics from my mac either..... Ian 01-09-04, 11:16 AM http://www.buildtalk.com/forumhelp.html This is from an FAQ from another board. It's hard to tell how much information is going to be redundant so please excuse me if this is not exactly what you are after. To get my pictures into the avatar space beside my posts I first make the picture. I use a program specifically for manipulating digital images. I don't know what the Mac offers. MadMike offers some good points. Some study about html and how images are inserted with those < img > tags would be helpful for using those "vBcode" tools offered if you select those features in your profile. Renaming to avoid spaces is a very good idea. Many of the servers that run public services like this don't tolerate spaces in file names. First I open the picture I want to be my avatar and resize it to suit the requirements of the board. I think they will tolerate an image no larger than 100x100 pixels but I may be wrong. A quick poke around the FAQ and my profile didn't help remind me but it's either 80x80 or 100x100 and that's not too hard to change... once you know how.. ;^( I then save it as a jpg image which may require an "export". You could use the gif format as well but the same rules will apply to size so just resize to the boards limits and you should be fine. If the board says it will take a certain size I usually make the image slightly smaller just in case there is some discrepancy somewhere along the line. There are limits for file size as well but usually with images of 100x100 pixels they don't really come into play. I don't know what the file size limits are here. Once that's done I save the file somewhere I won't forget it. < g > Then go to my message board "user cp" to "edit options". At the bottom of the page I choose "Change Avatar". This takes me to a place where I have an option to "You can upload an avatar from your computer:" I use this and push the button that says "Browse..." and point to the file I have just created on my machine. I believe this image is then uploaded to the server that offers us this board so all can see your chosen avatar next to your posts. Please forgive me if I've insulted anyones intelligence with this description. I don't mean to be rude just helpful.. or at least on this point.. ehh I love images and hope all you Mac users can keep help slack my thirst for avatars.. ;^) If you want to post an image with your message I use the "reply" button where I"m then lead to a reply option where I can upload the same way as I've described above. It's marked as: "Attach file:" However be careful about image size. Many moderators don't want threads bogged down with huge file sizes and large images. An image of 650 pixels in the largest direction is often not an issue so be considerate with this feature. I've seen it disabled on board from abuse and ignorance. It would be a shame to do that here. Anything over a file size of about 60kb seems to me never necessary for web work. Cheers! Ian. Ian 01-09-04, 11:23 AM The image edit didnt' take.. this is the image I meant to post. Duh factor. Ian. Ian 01-12-04, 12:40 AM Was this entirely inapproprate to add to this thread? the thread killer.. Ian. Andrew 01-12-04, 08:17 AM Not entirely, but not critical to explaining HOW to post...lol. Dont sweat it, "killer" ;) Ian 01-12-04, 11:28 AM and... where did you develope the skills to make me laugh like this..? Obviously text messaging isn't clouding your intuition.. heh thanks. < vbg > Cheers.. Ian. |
