Like they needed to perform a study to figure this out?? LOL :D

Get ready to read in all the ADD books that ADDers can easily get addicted to the Interent too!

Why is it ok for people to sit in front of the Television for 4 hours everyday, but if you go online for 4 hours every day it's considered an addiction??? :eyebrow:

US full of Internet addicts: study
Oct 17 2:02 PM US/Eastern

The United States could be rife with Internet addicts as clinically ill as alcoholics, an unprecedented study released suggested.

Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine in Silicon Valley said their telephone survey indicated more than one of every eight US residents showed at least one sign of "problematic Internet use."

The findings backed those of previous, less rigorous studies, according to Stanford.

Most disturbing was the discovery that some people hid their Internet surfing, or went online to cure foul moods in ways that mirrored alcoholics using booze, according to the study's lead author, Elias Aboujaoude.

"In a sense, they're using the Internet to self-medicate," Aboujaoude said. "And obviously something is wrong when people go out of their way to hide their Internet activity."

According to preliminary research, the typical Internet addict was a single, college-educated, white male in his 30s, who spends approximately 30 hours a week on non-essential computer use.

I wonder how much "non-essential" television people watch every week!

At least the Interent is somewhat interactive!

I'd rather be an Internet addict than a couch potato any ol' day! :D

Why is it ok for people to sit in front of the Television for 4 hours everyday, but if you go online for 4 hours every day it's considered an addiction??? :eyebrow:I keep trying to argue this point with my husband. Of course, I can't fold laundry while I'm browsing the net.

He can be home all day and watch tv, but the minute I get online, I am "addicted". Go figure....

Why is it ok for people to sit in front of the Television for 4 hours everyday, but if you go online for 4 hours every day it's considered an addiction??? :eyebrow: Didn't "they" do a bunch of studies about TV addictions back in the 80's and early 90's?

I keep trying to argue this point with my husband.

Funny so do I, but my argument is that posting on forums does not make him a writer, it's procrastinating doing real writing. Espcially when all he's got of his next novel is a couple pages of notes. Writers would totally throw off that study.

[ ] busy signal -- indicates subject is using dial-up access
[ ] subject anxious to get off the phone. (obviously wants to get back to chat room)
[ ] Jib-jab music playing in background.
[ ] check this box if subject laughs when you utter the phrase 'all your base are belong to us'
[ ] subject denies using internet or having a problem with it -- this is serious! Place a check in the next box too.

Seek you are a doll but my medication hasn’t kicked in yet and heck even if it does mid-sentence it would say it any way. . . .

Wouldn’t it be more effective to place articles about internet addiction on the internet?. . . . . .just an ADDed observation!

Pem it is a perspective thing. Old medical field joke. . . .

What is the difference between moderate pain and severe pain?

Weather I am the one in pain or you are.

The difference between addictive behaviors and “harmless entertainment” weather I am the one displaying them or you are-LOL

We just got two computers and router arguement over.
