Hello,

I am newly diagnosed ADD although, I have suspected there was "something" wrong with me for a long, long time. I won't get into the details but let's just say I think I am the inattentive type. My family says I live in " La La Land " :o

My question is, I've just been perscribed Dexedrine 10mg Slow release. I take it in the morning at around 7:30am, it kicks in by 8:30 and works OK. I find that It wears off by about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. The other day, I tried taking another 10mg at 4, but it was too much and it made me nauseous. However, the next day after my 10mg dose kicked in, I felt GREAT!! I'm wondering if maybe the 10mg is too low of a dose and if I were to take a 5mg Immediate release at 4, to get me through the evening hours if it would help. OR should I ask the doctor for a 15mg S.R. dose (morning)along with a 5mg I.R dose (for 4pm). Does a 10mg dose/day seem low to you or is that a "normal" dose?

I hope this isn't too hard to read, thanks in advance for your advice.

:)

First of all wait for your brain to slow down, not the speed affect on your body before you redose. Taking the 5mg immediate release probably is your best option. I find with dex the higher the dose the more time I have to wait between dosing. A lot of XR pills have two peaks one at about 2 hours and one towards the end of delivery. You might of redosed just in time to hit the peaks of both doses and that would not feel good. Talk to your doc, but you are on the right track. Also research the drug manufactorers web site and learn how the pill works.

Thank you for your response Tom.:)

I've been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding ADD, since I was diagnosed. I almost wonder if the dexedrine is working properly as I have nothing else to gage it to other than comparing how I feel on vs off the med. I definately feel less anxious and slowed down, which in itself is a WONDERFUL change. I've always felt like I am in a rush or a hurry - driving, cleaning or whatever and then the anxiety that accompanies that feeling is not fun. Funny though, I just thought that was how it was for everyone. I'm 35yrs old (Shhh..) and I can't remember the last time I went out somewhere or did housework or whatever, without feeling like I'm in a huge hurry. Feeling "normal" is like Heaven! I'm looking forward to finally being able to get things accompished without stress, and finding some follow-through to along with it:D !! I do think I'll have to re-learn how to function properly and fix some of these bad habits I have (always late) developed over the years.

Also, I would be interested to know if people who are currently taking dexedrine have experienced weight loss. How long you've been taking it, how much weight have you lost and what is your current dose. This is only my 8th day but I sometimes have a little trouble forcing myself to eat. I must admit I am loving the effect because although I generally eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis, this med helps me stay focused on making Super Healthy choices all the time. I hope this doesn't change as I tended to eat without even realizing I was eating half the time. I'd wander through the house, forget where I was going or what I was just doing and end up in the kitchen and it was like... " Oh, what's in this cupboard... " -( lucky for me, I only keep my cupboards full of Healthy low-fat foods or I'd be as big as a house) but not really realizing consciously what I was doing. I really do think I was subconsciously trying to deal with low levels of dopamine.

Reading all your posts has helped me tremendously. I want to thank everyone who has bravely written about their own personal struggles as well as their success:) Reading them has made me feel like I actually may NOT be the freak I've believed myself to be these last 35 yrs.

Thank you!

YER DOPAMINE-low levels,-how many fat, Meth/Crystal/Ice addicts do you see?-smoking/shooting/Crystal is ALL they care for-over food, sex, life. Dexedrine will boost dopamine, and supress apetite, (for a short while)-as i'l post,

!5mg Dexedrine capsules-"the new way to control apetite, in weight reduction"-circa 1954, Methamphetamine 5mg Tabs were also given, were more effective, as meth is:S.

Weight reduction with Dextroamphetamine Slp, always stops within 1-2 months as the body becomes more effective at neutralising the drug, this is not to say that Dexedrine is not a good med for other uses-i'v taken it, and love it! 5mg IR tabs:), 80 years old and STILL the best medicine for ADD/HD.
