Hello, I'm a 21 year old guy living in Northern Ireland. I've suspected for some time that I may have ADD, and am currently being assessed for Asperger's Syndrome with ADD.

When I was very young I was hyperactive - I'd jump up and down on chairs, climb on tables, bang my head against the wall, etc. My mum took me to see our GP who told her to remove all "E numbers" from my diet. So I wasn't allowed Coke, jelly sweeties, etc. That seemed to calm down my hyperactivity.

However, even now I find it hard following instructions (either to begin with or I complete forget what was said), terrible at mental arithmatic and English, I always make silly mistakes, I'm always day dreaming or just "spaced out", find it hard reading long passages of text (I do enjoy reading but it takes me forever to finish a book, although I could never finish the LotR because I kept forgetting what I'd just read) and I find it hard getting my thoughts down on paper. If I'm talking to someone I always forget what I'm saying and/or muddle my words. It feels as though there's a "fog" over my mind, making it hard to think clearly. My short term memory is also really bad, like if i have to go upstairs to get something I'll go up and completely forget what it was I had to get, or that I had even gone up to get something in the first place.

I should say though that I have managed to do pretty well academically, although the above symptoms can lead to some distressing situations, like me getting into trouble at work.

Thanks for your time all.

Well only a doctor can tell you for sure but there are several peole around here who say much the same thing as you do. That they were more active as children and the hyper activity went away as they got older but they still have a hard time paying attention to conversations ect. . . .

This sounds sort of like the Feingold diet to me!

Which by the way, there's an "E" in "Feingold" ya know? LOL :D

I am glad I am not the only one who wondered what "E" foods were. E=eat as far as I can see.

Diet adjustments only help relieve the symptoms of apx 4% of those who present with ADD symptoms. The ones who were most likely to be helped by dietary adjustments will be those who have a family history of Migraine head aches.
