When I see my number of posts, beside it has black mark that reads, I have a disabled reputation. What does that mean?

If someone makes a nice post another user can give reputation points to that user. Or if turned on, take away reputation points for bad posts.

The more a user is online, the longer he is a member, and the more a user posts, the higher the reputation points will be. And based on their reputation they can get more or less points on top of that.

Check your User CP to turn reputation points on

The amount of reputation points that you can give is directly related to the number of reputation points you have.

If you have 500 reputation points, you can give another user more reputation points than if you only had 50 reputation points. The better your reputation, the more important your opinion of other people's reputation is.

When you registered, number of posts, and your reputation count are all multipliers.

If the dot is black, the user has turned off their reputation count in the User CP

I saw my black dot and almost panicked! I thought, what did I do wrong to earn a black mark??? I'm very sensitive, you know :eyebrow:.

The ONLY thing a black dot means is that the user has the reputation option turned off in their User CP. Think of it as a light...if the light is off (user has reputation disabled), the reputation marker looks black. If the light is on (reputation option is turned on in the User CP)...they look green.

I hope this clarifies the reputation system for everyone.

Asking as a long term member. . . . . .

This feature must have been turned off for quite a while because I have never heard of this before and I have been a member for some time.(searching for one of my post wondering How long I have been a member here?-May 2004-whew it has been a while)

I do understand it may have been on when I first joined but I simply failed to notice. . . . or failed to remember, both?

I am on a distinguished road...I deserve to be uber-famous after my record-setting postcount :( I have always been iffy about poking systems. I gotta start an ROAK poke thread now....stay tuned.

I learned some stuff about reputation points tonight:

You are limited to a certain number every 24 hours
You can't give tons of points to one person only-gotta spread them around! (I didn't, but once you give to someone, you have to find someone else!) Good thing I think!
My points didn't go up at all today-but went up lots yesterday
you get a new square after 100 points? possibly or is it related to level? Will know at 150!
This is fun, when you can't give points to someone yet, you want to find people to give points to!
It is like giving gold stars for good work! (Or tarnished ones for....?)
It is more fun to give good reps than the other kind
I felt happier after spreading the joy!
Try it! You will feel good about yourself!

We currently have that feature turned off. If we were to turn the comment feature on, only the recipient of the reputation points (and comment) would be able to see them (they appear in the control panel).

I try to give away all possible reputation points everyday! How about everyone else? Lots of neat posts and helpful people!

It's more of a "member appreciation", a very scaled down version of the awards system. The Awards showcase is nomintions by members or staff for consistant contributions of a member in certain areas. The points are simply a way for members to give feedback and acknowledgement for a particular point, post or comment.

Is there a way for us to see our own reputation besides the little green boxes and the actual points. Like for example what the user that gave you reputation said when they gave you the rep. For example "great post i enjoyed it" type of thing?

I noticed that if you try to give yourself reputation, clicking on the scale icon in one of your own posts, you will be told the number of points you have total.

Be really careful giving out negative reps. I was on one forum that changed the formula and actually took points away from people who gave negative rep points. I was upset because the people I gave them too deserved them too...

I would assume you'll be famous soon enough means you're within a few points for a second box. You already have a good reputation JNH...even before there were points for it. :)

I am confused. I read the the comments are turned off? Then why can you leave comments for others? I cannot find any comments in my control panel, what are they listed on if they are still turned on?

While you're able to fill out the comments box, the ability to VIEW those comments is turned off.

I think that the comments should be turned on; just to see WHY we got rep points so that we can learn from the good things we do :)

Its base on a combination of how long you have been a member ad how many times someone gave you a rep point for a post.
