I'm making the switch now from effexor to strattera. Apart from the obvious warning to go slowly go off the effexor (due to bad withdrawal), does anyone have any other advice? My doctor wants me to go completely off the effexor before starting up the strattera. Is this normal? I feel like I've seen people on this forum who are using both at the same time. If possible I'd like to use both at the same time for a little bit of time so as to smooth the transition. Lastly what have people's experiences been like with anxiety on strattera? One of my favorite parts of effexor is that it knocks out a lot of anxiety and I'm a little worried that it will come back when I'm on strattera...
Just to update in case anyone else is considering making the same switch. I went down from 75 mg of effexor XR to 37.5 mg for about three days. Then I quit cold turkey. This possibly wasn't the wisest choice (my doctor recommended that I stay on 37.5 for at least a week and then take half that for another three days), but what can I say, I'm impatient :).
Anyway, the awful dizziness of effexor withdrawal ensued for the next few days, along with headaches and a mild fever. On my third day off I started up the strattera per my doctor's orders and noticed that most of the withdrawal symptoms of effexor immediately disappeared!
It's a little too early for me to tell how effective it is in terms of improving my attention, but initial results seem at least a bit promising. Anyone know how many weeks it takes for the effects of strattera to really kick in? I'm on 40 mg right now.
Strattera is supposed to be good for anxiety-- I've seen it recommended for people with comorbid ADHD and anxiety. I wouldn't call what I have felt anxiety, but it definitely keeps me from feeling so stressed out at the end of the day.
As for time, it can take up to a month to really know you're feeling effects. At two weeks a lot of people seem to feel something, but not everyone. When anyone says they tried Strattera for two days and felt completely different, I really wonder. Usually around then you're still tied up in side effects. Four weeks is a reasonable time to feel how it's going to work for you.

I didn't switch from effexor, straterra worked for me the first time. At 80 mg, I noticed in the first month that my temper was more under control. At 60 mg it is still better.
