I've always been a heavy 'thinker' type but suddenly, I don't know how on earth this could happen, this part of my human brain, which must be responsible for enjoying human emotional drama (do most people have that?) got activated.

I'm not enjoying it one bit though, because the part that cares about that stuff is right now is feeling extremely torn apart by something I would not generally think twice about.

I consider this a severe personality alteration and seriously hope it goes away or something.

Anything like this happen to you?

What do you mean by drama? Are you referring to some sort of emotional tension/turmoil that you witness or just something you read or saw in the media? Individuals with ADD/ADHD sometimes have a tendency to crave the emotional/physiological "rush" that occurs with high emotional levels. I believe in many cases of relationship (and other boredom), we sometimes choose behaviors which will create that feeling, simply because we deeply need that heightened level of stimulation (for many of us, our threshold is much higher than those who don't have ADD/ADHD. Perhaps you are just now realizing that something inside you is satiated by this drama?

Anything like this happen to you?YES! Since starting Strattera I find I am much more emotional.

I got all teary eyed during an episode of "Leave It To Beaver" a while back! LOL :D I couldn't believe it!!

We have discussed this in another thread here --> http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33414

Maybe that thread will help! :)

Peace! :)

One of the symptoms of ADHD is being unconnected with your emotions. McHuman, maybe with Strattera you've slowed down and have the chance to consider things you didn't have the time or attention for before.

I never thought about it a lot before, but people always described me as stoic. It makes a lot more sense now. A lot of ADHD people don't "read" social situations as clearly (hard to pay attention to people's tiny behavior clues), so we don't know what to expect from other people in emotional situations and it's uncomfortable. Also, when put under stress the ADHD mind bogs down, so when confronted with an emotional situation the mind can freeze up, making it hard to express feelings.

I find since I started taking Strattera I notice people's expressions or little gestures more than before. I'm less overwhelmed by everything going on in the room I guess. But I also have the feeling you talked about, McHuman, where certain things that bother me stay on my mind because I'm NOT preoccupied with just getting through the day anymore.

It's a tough one, but it sounds like you need to invest your attention and energy in something to get your mind off of things. I had to oversimplify my life when ADHD was the worst just to keep from getting overwhelmed. Now I can handle a little bit more. Maybe with treatment now you can afford to add some more activity to your life?
