View Full Version : Life is beautiful but am I living it?
I believe I have add but haven't went to a doctor. I have all the sypmtoms and I always wonder why I was different. I know now and I'm making an appointment to go see the doc. It's hard to beleive that I was living life not to the best of my abilities. I'm 25 years old and that's how much of my life I have been missing. I forget things, day dream, and can't stay focus to save my life. I want see what it would be like to be able to do those things. Is it better to live life not on meds or is it better controlling it but losing a part of who you are?

:confused:what do you mean lose a part of who you are?
just take a stimulant, when you dont take it you are add person like before, when you take it you can concentrate
They're are so much side effects like, weight lost, mood swings, and sexual effects. That changes your personality from what it use to be.
The meds don't really change your personality, although you may have some behavior changes. The biggest change, other than being able to focus, is that you may loose some of your impulsivity. Most people do not have noticeable changes. You just look like you're finally getting it together.
There are a few with very severe cases that do act different on and off meds; my daughter is one. She used to say that her meds changed her too, but if your now using all of your brain did it really change you or do they allow you to be the real you? I always opt for the last.

Zach326 11-14-06, 07:33 PM Life is never wasted, life is lived, there is not much more you can do with it.
Wasted or well spent is in the eye of the beholder.
The ugly in life provides contrast
you are asking people questions they can not answer
Experience will be your guide, experiment and see what works for you.
Come to your own conclusions!
Remember! - no one can speak definitively about your reality!
PinkPanther_04 11-14-06, 09:12 PM They're are so much side effects like, weight lost, mood swings, and sexual effects. That changes your personality from what it use to be.Actually, I have fewer mood swings since I started taking Adderall. And the weight loss isn't really a big deal and is easily countered just by eating more calorie-dense food (and that doesn't change your personality anyways). I haven't had any other issues with this one. I feel more like myself now because the brain fog and impulsivity aren't covering up my real personality so much. I did have some side effects (along with a lack of positive effects) with a couple of other medications, but those just weren't right for me. There are quite a few medications out there, so if you start taking one and you don't like the effects, then you can try another.
You sound a lot like me when I was first diagnosed. I was very unsure about meds. But you already know what life is like without them, right? If you're not happy with that, then you might as well at least try all the tools that are at your disposal to deal with the problems you have.
Remember, not everyone experiences side effects. Every medication that you take has a side effect and I hope that doesnt prevent you from taking it. If you are diagnosed with ADD work with your doctor, there are plenty of ADD medications out there that will probably work fine for you.
usnavyabh2 11-14-06, 11:53 PM I had more mood swings on the Adderal....that drug just was not for me! I have recently started back on Wellbutrin and saw noticable results instantly, and got my appetite back! YEAH! I forgot what it was like to be hungry before 10:00 at night! I am also not jittery anymore, not yelling at hubby and son for nothing anymore....life is looking better!
meadd823 11-15-06, 06:27 AM This is almost a medication discussion. . . I can't decide pills wore off catagorization ability like gone withthem.
Here is some thoughts for now: If you dislike the effects of the medications then you can simply quit taking them.
Personality changes do happen for some but they are a small percentage.
Living life on medications is better than spending life wondering what would have happened had you at least tried. My opinion only. . .
oh did I mention the medications do wear off. If I didn't mention my medications wearing off most would probably not even notice the difference in my post.
Zach...
You took the words right out of my mouth...
(Didn't Meatloaf have a song with that title ?)
Seriously...You siad it so perfectly !
Why speed-reading is bad
Lesson 1:
...You took the meatloaf right out of my mouth...I needed to share that - but mostly I need to share the couple of seconds up in my mind - trying to work out why?
Was it not very nice?
I like nutloaf.
Yup !
I know how that works. (0;
Thank everybody for the replies. It makes me feel good to see so many people care about what happens to an individual. This like a family of support and I will always be on this giving everybody some advice. I will tell everybody about what happens to me in the next few weeks.
i think that your question is a paraphrase of
'what's the meaning of life?'
Wouldn't knowing the meaning mean that one would be able to choose a path which'd take one closer to the goal.
Walking down that path would surely be the best approach to ensuring that you're 'living it' ...
but we've just shifted the problem onto another question.
Except that it might help to know that the 'meaning' question is perhaps the single most important question to man.
Though (surprisingly) - not - beause of its solution.
Moreso in striving for the solution.
