I wanted to post my experience with Strattera so far because when I first began taking it I came online and was hard pressed to find someone saying anything good about it. I had myself convinced it was pointless and wouldn't work because of what I read online.

I am on my 4th week of 120mg of Strattera. I am a 20 yr old college student, and was 5'10 188 lbs when I was diagnosed. I do experience loss of appetite, but I have found that if I make myself eat something small even i'm fine and now I eat 3 meals a day. Being somewhat overweight i'm down to about 180 lbs now and am happy with that result.

My sleep is better, I would go days in a row without sleep prior to Stattera, now I at least get a few hours, again progress I am happy with. Regardless of how much or little sleep I get, I can get my day started much better.

My attention is much better. I still lack in motivation, and have days where I cant pay attention at all, but overall this has improved for me and for longer periods of time in class. When I went for a 3 week follow up I did significantly better on the evaluations compared with my initial evaluation.

My mood is better, anxiety due to ADD has decreased significantly, and I am more productive. I still experience fatigue but overall it has decreased significantly. I am better about doing daily routine things.

Sexual side effects have been minimal.

I still have a long way to go but I feel like this has been a good decision about a month in. The good effects have more than outweighed what could be considered bad. What works for one person does not work for everyone but that doesn't mean it does not work period.

When I initially started taking Strattera and experienced side-effects I came here to see what others were saying. I also heard a lot of negative stuff, so I stopped taking it shortly thereafter.

A year later, I started taking it again, and feel the side-effects are much more minimal. The benefits a bit more obvious, I seem to be a TAD more leveled out. I tend to get involved with what I am doing and tune out extraneous stuff with NO effort.

An example, is my class last Friday. The teacher stopped talking and asked the students across from me to stop making noise. I didn't know they were talking to each other and normally I would have a VERY good idea what they were talking about. I was focused on the lecture????????????????? Yes, I said the evil "L" word, lecture.

I still rage over dumb stuff, but I am a bit more docile.

In short, I think legitimate fixes seem negligible, while self-medicating seems profound.

I sometimes wonder how good this place is for ADD, its like "why wait three days to see how the meds work when I can log on, get one person's advice and take their word for it!" Not that I haven't done that around a thousand times or anything.

I hear ya, Mc Human. Not only am I absurdly impulsive, I am going to take stock in what I read on a message board to expedite an already premature decision.;)
