Well, I've been reading a few of the threads in this forum. Just sorta lurking. I hesitate to participate here because I don't feel like I really belong. Not until I finish something other than a short story or bit of fan fiction. But, since I may want to ask a question of one of you more experienced author-types, I thought it might be helpful for you to know where I am coming from.

For starters, I cut my teeth reading and writing in the classic epic fantasy genre. Tolkien especially. I make an annual ritual of reading the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Hobbit and LOTR in that order, if that tells you what kind of geek I am for JRRT. If that doesn't, then the thousands of posts on Tolkien Online should.

However, I have since put many words together in nearly every vein I can think of, including but not limited to: children's stories, nonfiction, cuberpunk, horror and thrillers.

Like I said, however, other than short stories, character studies and the fan fiction on the above mentioned messageboard, I have never finished anything.

I am currently attempting to write an adventure novel. I usually go in spurts of about 5000 words followed by about two months of nothing. Given my history with ADHD, I should have recognized the pattern sooner (hyperfocus followed by procrastination followed by hyperfocus and so on. lather, rinse, repeat, whatever) but I didn't until I was recently rediagnosed with ADHD. See my intro thread in the intro forum if you really want to know about my diagnosis and history with ADD, however, I warn you it isn't that interesting.

Anyway, hopefully if I show up in this forum among you real writers, you'll at least know who the hell I am and why I am asking about writing.
