Hi all! Just a question. My hubby takes 60mg dex per day. When he started (feb) he was only on 45mg, but he added another 15mg (march) because it didnt seem to be doing everything he needed. The dr. ok this and we all talk together every 8 weeks or so. Well, heres the thing......Hubby has started to take 3 extra st. advil (about 2 weeks now, dr. also ok) each day for a problem he has with pain in his hands from his tendons. Now, we are noticing it is like his dex is not working again. He has lost most of his concentration, he is angered and non stop thoughts and chatter. He has not "felt right" for about a week, and this is the only thing we can think of. He is all muscle, and extreemly active. His body seems to absorb things faster than most. I am going to contact the Dr on Monday, but was just interested in your feed back. Thank you!:)

Difficult question however dex WILL NOT interact with advil. He is taking a very large amount of dex and the dose may very well be too high. Those symtoms could very well be amphetamine phycosis and this is a very serious issue. Concider other ADD drugs. Stratera may help indirectly with pain and it can be taken with dex if need be. It's also likely that the dose is fine but he's not getting good pain managment casuing iritability. That much advil is also very hard on the kidneys. He might want to concider a referal for a pain specialist. Both issues should be treated seperatly and not be confused. Personaly I would discontinue the dex at once and see a doctor as soon as possible. If he is not seeing a phyciatrist then he should be, not only for ADD but for potentialy very serious mental illnesses. For certain mental conditions dex can be very bad dispite it's accepted and safe use for ADD even if one does indeed have ADD. ADD can be present with other mental conditions and treated in other ways. Be certain to inform his doctor of everything you have observed.

He may just be overmedicated.
