Hi Everyone!
I'm a 19yo college student with late-diagnosis ADD-Inattentive. I've been on 10mg Adderall IR, mostly Barr generic, for the past year or so. It's improved my quality of life tremendously, but there's definitely some room for improvement. I have a bothersome case of Reynaud's Sydrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynaud%27s_Disease), and I think the l-amphetamine in Adderall likely exacerbates it... l-methamphetamine is actually an OTC vasoconstrictor! I also have a lot of other "physical" symptoms from the adderall, especially at "come down", ie, rapid heart beat, shakiness.

So I've been thinking about switching to Dexedrine.

Here are my questions:

1. Do you think switching to Dexedrine will help relieve some of the "physical" side effects of the Adderall? If you have experience with both, how different do they feel?

2. Are they dose equivalent? Ie, should I ask for 10mg TID Dex?

3. I've read a bunch of stuff on here about which manufacurer is best, but I'm a bit confused. Is it safe to say that I should try to get the Mallinkrodt 5mg generics, followed by the GSK, and avoid Barr at all costs?

Thanks so much.
Geoff

1. It's very likely that switching will help relieve some of the physical side effects, but it's important to note that we all respond differently to these drugs. From my experience with both, the Adderall was sedating for me, where as the Dexedrine is not sedating at all and provides me much mental clarity.

2. They were not dose equivelant for me. Your Dr. will be able to answer this question for you.

3. I would never say that anyone should "avoid Barr at all cost." Barr is just not as good as the others in my opinion. I took the Barr for years, and I actually found that the Barr was more stimulating than the brand name Dexedrine or the Mallinckrodt. Unfortunately it also had more unpleasant side effects which I think are best described as somewhat harsh when compared to the other two. Without trying each brand, it's really impossible for you to know how you will react to them. Some people tolerate the Barr very well, so I would never agree that the Barr should be avoided at all cost until a person knows how they actually respond to it.

Good luck.
