View Full Version : Stumped for the holidays...

It just seemed the right thing to do...have a support thread for us ADDers, stumped holiday shoppers, and/or clueless. Need help? Ask it here.

We've moved out of state, and I'm sending presents back home to some friends. (home...I promised I wouldn't call it that...inevitable). We celebrated Hanukkah with them. That starts the 15th (at sunset). So I don't have much time. I still need gifts for:

1. A two year old little girl who has absolutely everything. (She's the 4th baby in a family with another sister and oodles and oodles of cousins to get hand-me-downs from.) One birthday I gave her an iron and measuring cup for her Hope Chest. Her mother is using them instead. About $7 and under.

2 and 3. My two best friends. I've never had trouble coming up with gifts in the past. I've made them things as well, and this year I'm just not feeling creative to do something special.

Maybe I'm just sad. Maybe that's why I can't think of anything. If I were there I'd get a feeling for what they were wishing for or needed...no matter how small or big (that I could afford). About $10 to $15. Again, it could be small, I just want it to be meaningful.

I thought I'd go to a historical spot in our new home and get them something unique from here...I'm just so sad I have no idea what to do.

How about long distance calling cards?

All of us already get unlimited long distance. A good idea otherwise.

I found a kiddish cup and saucer for one friend.
The other I have an idea...but I'm not sure I can get it done by Hanukkah...of course, they're used to me being a touch tardy (there's an understatement) but I'd like to try.

Still no ideas for the little darlin' with everything...

When in doubt I choose books by good authors and beautiful illustrations.

I think swede has a great idea there for all of them, everyone can benefit from books.
I suggest only board books for the 2 year old. Potty books are good for that age. I don't recommend the pop up things, they always get ripped, at least in my house of 3 boys:eek: , maybe a little girl would be more gentle.
Maybe for your friends you could get one of those Chicken Soup books, there must be a friends one.

Ok, my turn.....
My youngest is 20 months old, he has 2 older brothers and gets tons of hand me downs from them, he really doesn't "need" anything....I am just lost as to what to get him. I already got him some toys and we really don't need to add the ones I've bought already, so I really don't want to get anymore. I just don't know what to do, I need just one or two more things for him, something under $30, but if it is something really, really great and is educational, (and smallish LOL:D ) I am willing to spend more.

My Nana told me to get a really sturdy wagon for my boys. It lasts long after they stop riding in it. Not plastic ones...you can haul stuff in it. But that's more pricey than you're looking for.

Puzzles? Of something he really pays attention to? My friend's son was totally into birds...just something that caught his attention...I got him a rather conservative poster of all kinds of birds with their names on it (more for someone older) but he loves it.

Is a framed pic that you took yourself too beige? I always love getting pics of my friends if they live far away.

Actually, if I can get my act together, I'll send her a scrapbooked page "The road between friends houses are never far apart." With pics of my kids and she can add pics of hers. That's if I can get my act together by the 15th...or somewhere in those 8 days.
